There are 51 Devee Sthaan also which are called Shakti Peeth. These Devee Peeth are related the story of Satee.

Satee was the daughter of Daksh. Once Daksh organized a Great sacrifice but did not invite Shiv because of personal conflict. Satee went to see that Yagya in spite of Shiv's warning. There her father abused her husband which she could not tolerate. She fell down and died. When Shiv heard this, a fire flashed from his third eye which took the terrible form of Bhairav. Bhairav destroyed the sacrifice.

Shiv got extremely sad, he picked up her body and sat down on Kailaash Parvat and inert, as his Shakti was gone. With the withdrawal of his Divine force (Prakriti) the world was overspread of Demons. To cause Shiv to save the world Vishnu took out His Chakra and cut Satee's body in 52 parts which fell at 52 places and are known as Shakti Peeth today.

Her right and left breasts fell at Jalandhar (Supra) and Raam-giri where the goddess is worshipped as Tripur-Maalinee. The organs of generation fell at the celebrated Taantrik center Kaam-Roop (Supra), in Assam where is the goddess is worshipped as Kaamaakhyaa Devee. Her middle and the upper parts of the body, her hands, fingers, left and right buttocks, belly, navel, thighs, feet, toes (some at Kaalee Ghaat in Bangaal), skeleton, hair etc fell at other Peeth at each of which Devee is worshipped under different names and is accompanied by a Shiv or Bhairav variously entitled.
