Naath Sampradaaya

Naath Sampradaaya started with Lord Shiv (Bhole Naath) when he initiated Lord Dattaatreya (Shreepaad Naath) who in turn initiated many others.

Matsyendra Naath/ Machchaindra Naath got his Deekshaa when he was in the stomach of a fish (Matsya) when Shiv was instructing Dattaatreya.
Matsyendra Naath then initiated Gorakh Naath Jee who later became the foremost exponent of the Naath Philosophy.
Gorakhnath was the one of the greatest Taantrik the world has ever seen. Taantrik path has 2 modes, one is Saumya and the other one is Aghoree.

The Saumya Taantrik (or Dakshin Panthee) use very mild Mantra and Tantra to evoke the various powers of Nature while the Aghoree (the Vaam Panthee) do all sorts of forbidden things like resorting to alcohol, drugs, sex, non vegetarian food etc.

Gorakh Naath laid the foundation for the expansion of the Naath. So every Taantrik is not an Aghoree. Gorakh Naath had the knowledge of both of these paths and he initiated disciples according to their attitudes. Taamasik were given the Aghoree path while Saattwik were given Saumya
path. Still the highest Tantra in the Naath Philosophy is the Tantra of Raaj Yog (Vivekaanand has written a book on it) and Kriyaa Yog (Lahari Mahaashaya Yukteshwar Giri - Paramhans Yoganand order).

So even after acquiring all the powers of a Naath Yogee has to finally resort to the above two Tantra (methods) to attain Salvation. Naath Sampradaaya in fact includes all the Hindu Philosophies. Some Naath Sampradaaya members are Bhakt like Sant Gyaaneshwar who set up the Warakari Sect in Mahaaraashtra that worships Paandurang. Some Nath members worship Shiv, some Krishn... So you can see that Naath Sampradaaya is actually all accepting.

For a Naath Yogee nothing is impossible in the universe for he experiences God through all angles as that of a Bhakt, because Guru Bhakti is the highest Bhakti in Naath, as Nature because Taantrik invoke the powers of Nature, as Alakh Niranjan - the foremost A-Dwait principle, as Karm - Helping the needy is a vow that a Naath takes and all.
