In His common form Vishnu is depicted with four arms carrying Shankh
(Conch), Chakra (Disc), Gadaa (Mace) and Padm (Lotus Flower).
Lord of Truth - Out of His navel blossoms a lotus flower, so He is known
as Padmnaabham. This flower is the seat of Brahmaa, the god of Creation
and the embodiment of Rajo Gun. He makes Shesh serpent bed as the embodiment
of Tamo Gun and the vices of darkness, and rests on him. That is why Vishnu
is the embodiment of Sato Gun and the God of Truth.
Presiding Deity of Peace - Vishnu is often depicted reclining form on
Shesh Naag, a many-headed serpent, coiled, floating on Cosmic waters
that represents the peaceful Universe. This pose symbolizes the calmness
and the patience in the face of fear and worries which the poisonous
serpent represents.
Garud, The Vehicle - The vehicle of Vishnu is Garud, the eagle. Empowered
with courage and speed to spread the knowledge of Ved, Garud is the assurance
of fearlessness at the time of calamity. And the consort of Vishnu is Lakshmee -
the goddess of wealth and beauty.
