Gati

(1) Speed, such as "The train has now caught the speed is 50 miles per hour".
(2) Movement or motion, such as "The train is now in motion".
(3) Situation or status. When a soul is born in lower species, it is said to have bad Gati. Born being a human being is considered a good Gati on Prithvi. In afterlife if somebody goes to Hell, he is said to have bad Gati, while going to Heaven is considered a good Gati, and attaining Moksh is the best Gati.

There are two Gati after the death. Who has acquired full knowledge, there is no Gati for him, he is free; but whose knowledge is incomplete, or is mixed with Karm, he goes upward. This is the state between knowledge and Karm, it doesn't matter whether knowledge is more or Karm is more. This is called Devayaan Gati.

This body has nine doors, ordinary people use them to enjoy this world, while the Yogee and highly knowledgeable people keep them under their control - and this is the way to get good Gati.
