Puraan | 6-Naarad Puraan | 2-Uttar Bhaag
6-Naarad Puraan, 2-Uttar Bhaag, p 580-588 Uttar Bhaag of Naarad Puraan (p 577-750, about 175 pages) contains many stories - Rukmaangad, Indradyumn, Raam, Parashuraam, Krishn, glory of Gayaa and Gangaa, importance of Teerth Story of Rukmaangad Rishi said to Soot Jee - "Please tell us about the worship of Vishnu in detail." Soot Jee said - "Bhagavaan Hrisheekesh is pleased only by Bhakti, not by wealth. If you worship Him even with water, He fulfills all desires. There is a story about this in the form of dialog between king Rukmaangad and Rishi Gautam. There was a king named Rukmaangad in ancient times. He used to worship Vishnu and observed Ekaadashee fast. He used to declare in his kingdom on the day of Ekaadashe that "Today is Ekaadashee and whoever, more than 8 years old and less than 85 years old will eat food today, he will be punished by me. Today you take bath in Gangaa River, and give donations to Braahman." So his people used to that fast. By doing that fast everybody started going to Vishnu Lok. The path to Vishnu Lok got jammed, because whoever died in his kingdom was going to Vishnu Lok. Yam Raaj's condition was pitiable, Chitragupt got relieved from writing the account about people's actions. All previous records of people's were erased. There was no sinner around. The path to Yam Lok which was heated by 12 Suns got destroyed. Everybody was going to Vishnu Lok riding on Garud's back. People on Prithvi didn't know any other Vrat except Ekaadashee. One day Naarad Jee went to Yam Lok and asked Yam Raaj Jee - "We don't hear any cry in Yam Lok now-a-days. Chitragupt is also not writing the account of people's Karm. What is the reason for this that no sinner is coming to your Lok?" Yam Raaj Jee said - "Hey Naarad Jee, Whoever king is ruling now-a-days on Prithvi, he is a great devotee of Vishnu. He has ordered his people to observe Dwaadashee Vrat without any reservation. And whoever do this Vrat by any reason, they go to Vishnu Lok. That king has stopped people coming to my Lok. My scribers also are without work now. I just wish to resign from this position, because who eats out of his position without doing any work, he certainly goes to Narak." So Yam Raaj, Naarad Jee and Chgitragupt went to Brahmaa Jee. The people sitting in his court saw Yam Raaj Jee coming there, they said - "Has Yam come to see Brahmaa Jee? Doesn't he have any work? Normally he is very busy in his work, how come that he has come here today. And above that, even Chitragupt is also here with his clean slate. We never saw a clean slate in his hands." When Devtaa were talking like this, that Yam fell on Brahmaa Jee's feet and said - "Bhagavan, I have been insulted. I am feeling helpless." Vaayu Dev raised him and made him and Chitragupt seated on Aasan. Yam Raaj said - "Hey Pitaamaha, Who has been appointed for some work and if he doesn't do that work and eats his master's food, he becomes the worm of wood. I can do my work sincerely, but Rukmaangad has greatly insulted me. He has ordered his people to do Ekaadashee Vrat, and because of that they go to Vishnu Lok. And not only they but their own and their wives' Pitar also go to Vishnu Lok. If their father and father's ancestors go to Vishnu Lok, or their mothers go to Vishnu Lok, it is understandable, but how their wives' ancestors go to Vishnu Lok, that is puzzling me. Law is that a person does whatever Karm, he enjoys or suffers for them alone. Since he is related to his father and mother, he can uplift them but he has no relation with his wife, how can he uplift, as a husband or son-in-law, his wife and her relations? On the day of Ekaadashee, if one smears his body with Aamalaa fruit and does not eat food, he goes to Vishnu Lok in spite of doing many Paap. I know that there is no limit of Vishnu Lok, that is why it is never filled up. Rukmaangad had started his rule 1,000 years ago and since then his people have been going to Vishnu Lok riding on Garud. If he had lived on Prithvi for some more time, he will send everybody to Vishnu Lok. Take back this Dand and cloth, you gave me. Blessed is his mother who gave birth to him. Undoubtedly, there is only one woman who has given birth to a brave man who has erased all records from my book. Till he is alive on Prithvi, it is not possible for me to live here." Brahmaa Sends Mohinee to Rukmaangad Brahmaa Jee said - "Dharm Raaj, Why are you so sad? You should not be sad seeing somebody's good qualities, it is not good for you. One Pranaam to Vaasudev is equal to 10 Ashwamedh Yagya, but the difference between the Ashwamedh Yagya and Pranaam is that who does 10 Ashwamedh Yagya, he comes back on Prithvi, but who does Pranaam to Vaasudev, he never comes back. Vaasudev is our father, who keeps fast on His day, how can we rule over him? Thus who, in spite of being sinners, have gone to Him, how can you rule over them? If you think that you can rule them it is your foolishness . If you have any trouble from anybody else, then I can help you." Yam Raaj said - "I understand that, but until Rukmaangad is ruling on Prithvi, I cannot be at peace. You can extend one favor to me, if you can stop Rukmaangad from doing Ekaadashee Vrat, I will be very grateful to you. From today I will not rule over them who will remember Him, or worship Him, or do any fast for Him." Soot Jee said - "Brahmaa Jee pondered over the suggestion of Yam Raaj and then created a beautiful woman. He himself closed his eyes seeing her and noticed that his people were also looking at her. So he said - "Whoever looks at mother, sister, daughter, daughter-in-law etc women with lusty eyes he falls in Narak, so do not look at her with that look. Dharm Raaj, whoever daughter-in-law shows her open body parts to her father-in-law, her hands and feet deteriorate. In the same way whoever father-in-law asks his daughter-in-law to wash his hands and feet, or to bathe him, or massage oil in his body, he also attains the same Gati." Saying this he narrowed his eyes. The woman said - "Tell me, What can I do for you?" Brahmaa Jee said - "There is a king named Rukmaangad in Vaidish city. His wife's name is Sandhyaavalee. She has given birth to a prince named Dharmaangad who is more glorious than his father. His father has ruled over the whole Jamboo Dweep, but Dharmaangad has ruled over other Dweep also. He is not yet married because of his parents. He obeys his parents very sincerely. He has 300 mothers, they all live in golden palaces. You go to Rukmaangad and move his mind. You will be known as Mohinee because of your beauty." Mohinee proceeded towards Mandaraachal Parvat and arrived there in third Muhoort (fifth Ghadee). Mandaraachal Parvat is 11,000 Yojan below the surface, 11,000 Yojan high and 11,000 Yojan wide. She sat on a 7 Yojan wide hill with the desire to meet Rukmaangad. There was a Shiv Ling there on that hill. It was 10 arms high and it was known as Vrish Ling. She started singing near that Ling.
