Naarad Puraan is the 6th Puraan in the row of 18 Puraan. This Puraan is divided in two parts Poorv Bhaag (early part) and Uttar Bhaag (later part). Poorv Bhaag is subdivided in four Paad (sections). In all it contains 25,000 Shlok (verses) among its 173 chapters. This
is believed to be the teachings of Naarad to Sanak and other Rishi.
Religious rites, devotion to God, duties of people of each Varn and
Aashram are detailed. There is a different version of Lalitaa Sahastra
Naam given in this which is not popular. This Puraan describes the six parts of Ved (Shikshaa, Kalp, Vyaakaran, Nirukt, Jyotish (astrology), and Chhand Shaastra - poetry) and worshipping Bhagavaan with desires in detail. This is in the form of dialog between Shaunak etc Rishi and Soot Jee in Siddh Aashram. (Soot Jee is the disciple of Ved Vyaas, and his real name is Lomharshan). So this Puraan was told by Soot Jee to many Rishi. Originally it was told by Naarad to Sanakaadi Muni. Sanakaadi Muni are four - Sanak, Sanandan, Sanat Kumaar and Sanaatan and they are the first brain children of Brahmaa Jee, and so is Naarad Jee. In this Puraan Naarad Jee teaches the Dharm of Brihat Kalp. If this Puraan is given as gift on the full-moon day in the month of Aashwin, it brings a great prosperity to the donor.
