5-Bhaagvat Puraan-Index

This Puraan is given here in simple English.  This Puraan is about Saaraswat Kalp and its 1st Manvantar - Swaayambhuv Manvantar.
[Bhaagvat Puraan, 8/1];   [Bhaagvat Puraan, 8/5]

It relates about Brahmaa's creation; lineage of Soorya and Chandra Vansh; Bhagavaan Vishnu's all Avataar and family line of Manu. Krishn's Avataar is given in detail. It is written by Ved Vyaas Jee.

Vyaas Jee told it to his son Shuk Dev, and Shuk Dev told this to Raajaa Pareekshit when because of the Shringee Rishi's Shaap he would die by Takshak's bite on the seventh day from that day. So he wanted to do something that would do good to him in one week time. Rishi suggested him to listen to Bhaagvat Puraan so he went to forest and listened to it. At the end he had already left his mortal body before Takshak bit him.

It contains 12 Skandh (parts). Its 10th Skandh is wholly devoted to Krishn Kathaa. It is said that after writing the largest book Mahaabhaarat, Vyaas Jee got very depressed and sad. One day Naarad Jee came to him and asked him why was he so sad. Vyaas Jee told him the reason that he did not like that kind of family war. Naarad Jee suggested him to write something about Vishnu and His Leelaa (activities) and assured him that he would surely find happiness after writing it. So he wrote Shree Mad-Bhaagvat Puraan. And it is also said that Vyaas Jee did get some satisfaction after writing it.

This Puraan is the gist of all Puraan, but especially describes Krishn's Leelaa in detail.

Wherever the references are given with page numbers, they are from "Shree Mad-Bhaagvat Mahaa-Puraan, 51st ed, Gita Press, Gorakhpur, Samvat 2061. in two volumes."
