10-Story of Surath-2
2-Padm Puraan, 4-Paataal Khand, p 506-512

This Khand covers the pages 411-609 (220 pages) of the book. It gives the account of Raam's Ashwamedh Yagya, and Krishn's life.

Surath Does Darshan of Raam

Shesh Jee said - "Hey Vaatsyaayan, Hearing all this Shatrughn asked his army to be prepared for the fight. Surath came in the battlefield with his sons and army and both started fighting. Surath destroyed a lot of army of Shatrughn. Pushkal asked a Prince - "What is your name, Prince? You are blessed that you have come here to fight with me." Champak said - "Although there is no use to know the name and family, still I tell you that Raghunaath Jee is my father, He is my mother, He is my friend. I am fighting for Him only so only He will take care of me. Now I introduce myself in this worldly way. I am the son of King Surath, my mother's name is Veervatee. [Because to pronounce one's own name is prohibited that is why I am telling you with sign] There is a tree of my name. Its flowers bloom in spring season and smell very sweet. Although they are very juicy still bumble bees do not sit on them. Whatever name is of that flower, that is my name. Now you get start fighting."

Both started fighting. Both were very brave and mighty, both knew weapons very well. Pushkal used Brahm Astra, so Champak also used Brahm Astra. Both Astra clashed with each other, so Champak pacified the Astra. Seeing this Pushkal shot thousands of arrows at Champak, then Champak used Raam Astra. Pushkal was thinking to counteract it, that it tied him. Thus Champak took him to his city. Shatrughn asked Hanumaan that who was taking his nephew. Hanumaan said - "Champak is taking him." Shatrughn asked Hanumaan to get him released. Hanumaan went there, fought with him, made him unconscious and got Pushkal released.

Surath went to Hanumaan and said - "Vaanar Raaj, You are blessed that you are the servant of Raam. You have felled my son, but I am telling you that I will arrest you." Hanumaan said - "You are also Raam's servant and I am also Raam's servant. If you will arrest me, the Prabhu will get me freed from you. So do whatever you like. Ved say that whoever remembers Raam, he never suffers." Surath admired him for his ideas and started fighting with him. Hanumaan broke king's 49 chariots. King got very surprised to see this, he said to Hanumaan - "Vaayu's son, You are blessed. Neither anybody can do such a thing, nor he will do. Just wait for a moment till I get ready with my bow."

The King released Paashupat Astra and people saw that Hanumaan was tied with the Astra. But they saw in a moment that he was free from that Paash. Hanumaan meditated upon Raam, and he got free from that Paash. Surath then used Brahm Astra, Hanumaan got free from that Astra also. Seeing this, the King remembered Raghunaath and using Raam Astra said to Hanuman - "Now you are tied." Hanumaan said - "O king, You are tying me with my own Lord's Astra, so I will have to honor it. Now He Himself will come and get me freed."

Seeing Hanumaan tied, Pushkal came to fight with the king. The king used a weapon which pierced Pushkal's heart and he fell down unconscious. Now came Shatrughn. Seeing him coming, the king said - "I have tied Hanumaan and Pushkal. I will tie you also, so you may remember Raam who will protect you by coming here." Both started fighting using Aagneya Astra, Varun Astra, Mohan Astra etc etc, but in the end the King shot an arrow at Shatrughn which made Shatrughn unconscious. Thus Surath and his 10 sons won the battle. Now was the turn of Sugreev. The King tied him also with Raam Astra. Then he took all of them to his city and asked Hanuman to remember Raam so that He could come to get them released.

Hanumaan started praying Raam. Raam heard his prayer and He immediately came there on His Pushpak Vimaan. Hanumaan saw that Raam had come and Bharat and Lakshman had also followed Him. A group of Muni was also there. Hanumaan said to the King, "See, My Prabhu has come to get me released." Surath also saw Raam and he greeted Him hundreds of times. Raam also embraced him and said wetting his head by His tears of joy - "O king, You are blessed. Hanumaan is the mightiest, but you tied him also." Then He freed Hanumaan and brought others alive. Surath said - "Bhagavan, I have done injustice with you, please forgive me." Raam said - "This is Kshatriya's duty. You have done a very good job by satisfying our warriors."

Surath worshipped Raam along with his 10 sons. Raam stayed there for three days. On the fourth day He went from there. Everybody got surprised to see Raam there, and all started telling His stories. After this Surath handed over his kingdom to Champak and he himself followed Raam's horse. All followed the horse in many countries, but nobody caught him there."

Horse At Vaalmeeki's Aashram

Shesh Jee said - "One day, in the morning, when The Sun was rising, the horse arrived in Vaalmeeki's Aashram on the banks of Gangaa River. Jaanakee's son, Lav went to bring Samidhaa for morning Havan. There he saw the Yagya horse, and said to other Munis' sons - "Whose horse is this who has come to our Aashram? Let us go and see him. Do not be afraid." Lav went to that horse and read the letter tied to his forehead. He opened it and read it. He got angry reading it. He said - "See his bravery, who has described himself in this letter. What is Raam? What is Shatrughn? Is it only Raam and Shatrughn who are born in Kshatriya family? Are we not Kshatriya?" Thus Lav caught the horse and got ready to fight taking his bow and arrow. Munis' sons tried to explain him - "Listen, Ayodhyaa's king Raam is very powerful. Even Indra cannot touch His horse, so better you leave this horse alone."

Hearing this Lav said - "You are Braahman's sons, you don't know the might of Kshatriya. Kshatriyas are famous for their might and Braahman are famous to eat food. Go and eat food offered by your mothers." Munis' sons got silent at this and stood away from him. In the meantime Shatrughn's soldiers came there and seeing their horse tied there asked Lav - "Who has tied this horse here? On whom Yam Raaj is angry today?" Lav said - "I have tied him here. Whoever will come to take it, my elder brother Kush will be angry at him." Hearing Lav the soldiers thought, "He is only a child. We should not pay any attention to him." so they proceeded to free the horse. Seeing this Lav cut their arms. They went from there crying and told everything to Shatrughn."
