9-Bhavishya Puraan, 3-Pratisarg (4), p 355-358

The fourth Part of Pratisarg Parv of Bhavishya Puraan is very important with the viewpoint of history. In this part history of all the four legs of Sat Yug, Tretaa Yug, Dwaapar Yug and Kali Yug is given. Besides, the history of the previous births of many Aachaarya, saints, Bhakt poets, is also given. They are said to be the Avataar of 12 Aaditya, 11 Rudra, 8 Vasu, or 2 Ashwinee Kumaar. Special treatment is given to Chaitanya Mahaaprabhu and that he got absorbed in Jagannaath Jee. But there are some incoherencies also which create doubts in their originality.

Previous Life of Marut Gan and Kabeer

(Chap 17) Brihaspati Jee said - "Devendra, in earlier times Vishnu killed Diti's two sons - Hiranyaaksh and Hiranyakashyap assuming the form of Varaah and Nrasinh Avataar. Diti got very sad so she worshipped Kashyap Jee. After 12 years of worship Kashyap Jee asked her to ask for a boon. Diti said - "My sister Aditi has 12 sons. I had only two sons, they were killed by her son Vishnu, therefore give me a son who can kill those 12 sons of Aditi." Hearing this terrible idea, Kashyap Jee said - "Brahmaa has prescribed two paths - Dharm path and A-Dharm Path which are called Par Maarg and A-Par Maarg also. Who take Dharm path, they are dear to Brahmaa Jee and who take A-Dharm path, they are the enemies of Brahmaa Jee. Because of taking A-Dharm path your two sons have been killed. Therefore you make your mind clean and pure, you will have a mighty, long-lived and intelligent son."

Hearing this Diti got pregnant and she started living piously. Indra got very afraid of her intentions, so with the permission of his Guru, he started serving Diti. Seven months had passed and one day by Indra's Maayaa, Diti slept unclean. At the same time Indra entered Diti's womb assuming a thumb size form along with his Vajra. First he cut the fetus in seven parts, then cut the each part again in seven parts (thus he divided them in 49 parts). They were all very polite to Indra, so all came out of Diti's womb and saluted her. Diti got pleased and she gave them in the service of Indra. They got famous as Marut Gan.

The same Marut were Anil named Braahman in their previous life. Anil pleased Paavak (Agni Dev) through prayers. He used to offer his head to Agni Dev and another head used to grow on his trunk. Pleased Agni Dev gave him Var, "You will be 49 Marut Gan, and then I will fulfill your wish by being your friend. As Kuber is dear to 26 Varun Dev, in the same way I will be your friend." Thus he was born as the friends of Paavak with the name of Vaayu from Diti's womb."

Soot Jee said - "After hearing this story from Brihaspati Jee, the same Vaayu was born in Dhaanyapaal Vaishy's house in Mool Gandaant Nakshatra. His parents abandoned him in Vindhya Van of Kaashee. Alik named childless cloth weaver came there and took that child to his house. The same child got known as Kabeer. He became the disciple of Raamaanand at the age of seven and he started worshipping Raam. He cooked food himself and offered to Vishnu. Bhagavaan started to fulfill his wishes."

Narasee Mehtaa

Brihaspati Jee said - "In ancient times, there was a king named Uttaanpaad. His son was Dhruv. Because of being ignored by his parents he came to Govardhan Parvat and did Tapasyaa there for six months at the age of five under Naarad's guidance. Pleased with him, Vishnu gave him an immovable place in the sky. This Dhruv was Maadhav named Braahman. He bathed in Teerth in morning for 60 years. Because of the same Punya, he became the friend of Maadhav. Dhruv ruled for 36 years."

Soot Jee said - "Hearing Brihaspati Jee, the 5th Vasu that Dhruv was born from his part as Narashree (Narasee Mehtaa) in Gujaraat. By the grace of Shankar, he did Darshan of Krishn's Divine Raas Leelaa in Vrindaa Van. Krishn Himself came to attend the marriages of his son and daughter with Yaadav and fulfilled his wishes. He also became the disciple of Raamaanand Jee in Kaashee Puree."

Vasu Devtaa

Brihaspati Jee said - "Devendra, Once, Atri Rishi meditated on the banks of Gangaa River along with Anusooyaa Jee. The three Devtaa, Brahmaa, Vishnu and Mahesh came there and asked him to ask for Var." Atri Muni was busy in his meditation, so he didn't speak anything, then the three Devtaa went to Anusooyaa Jee. Pativrataa Anusooyaa thought that they came to her with some bad intention, so she gave them Shaap to be her sons. As a result of that Shaap the three became Atri's sons - Brahmaa became Chandramaa, Vishnu became Dattaatreya, and Shiv became Durvaasaa. Later the same became Som (Brahmaa-Chandramaa) named 6th Vasu, Pratyoosh (Shiv-Durvaasaa) named 7th Vasu, and Prabhaas (Vishnu-Dattaatreya) named 8th Vasu."

Soot Jee said - "Hey Muni, Hearing this the three Vasu were born from their part on Prithvi to purify Kali. The 6th Vasu Som was born in the house of king Sudev of Vaishya Vansh in south. He got famous as Peepaa. He also ruled the kingdom like his father and then came to Dwaarakaa as the disciple of Raamaanand. Then he got a Hari's golden statue, destroyer of Pret, from Krishn and gave it to Vaishnav.

Atri's son 7th Vasu Pratyoosh was born in the house of Maargpaal of Vaishya Vansh in Paanchaal Desh. He became famous as Naanak. He also became the disciple of Raamaanand. He organized Mlechchh and showed them the Sookshm (minute, or subtle) way. The 8th Vasu Prabhaas was born as Nityaanand as Shukladatt's son in Braahman Vansh in Shaantipur. This was the grace of Vasu Devtaa."

Sadhan and Raayadaas

(Chap 18) Soot Jee said - "Thus Brihaspati Jee told all Devtaa about 12 Aaditya, 11 Rudra and 8 Vasu. Then he looked at Ashwinee Kumaar and said about them. Vivaswaan had three children from Sangyaa - Vaivaswat Manu, Yam and Yamunaa. Sangyaa could not tolerated her husband's Tej so she created her shadow and went to forest for Tap. Then from that shadow, Chhaayaa, Vivaswaan had three more children - Saavarni Manu, Shani and Tapatee. Soorya noticed Chhaayaa's some discriminative behavior, so considering her a Maayaa woman he burned her. Considering Vivaswaan angry, Saavarni Manu and Shani started quarreling with Soorya. From the same time both got started burned by Soorya. They came to Himaalaya and started doing Tapasyaa. After three years of Tapasyaa, Mahaakaalee gave them boon. After getting the boon they again came to Soorya to quarrel with him. Soorya got scared of them so he went away from there.

Sangyaa, assuming the form of Vadavaa (horse), was busy in Tapasyaa to get Soorya again. Soorya came there searching for her. Seeing her in the form of a mare he also assumed the form of a horse and stayed with her for five years. Soorya produced two sons from Sangyaa - Ashwinee Kumaar. They defeated Saavarni Manu and Shani and brought them to their father. Soorya hit them with iron bar and they became lame. Soorya got very pleased with his sons and said to them - "As Jeev and Eesh, and Nar and Naaraayan are one in spite of being two, you will also be famous with one name. Som's Power Idaa Devee will be your senior wife and Soorya's Power Pingalaa will be your junior wife. One of you will be Idaa'a husband and the other will be Pingalaa's husband. In human beings' birth chart, if Shani will be aspecting the 12th House as a malefic planet, then the worship of Idaa's husband will be good to pacify him; and if Saavarni Manu will be deluding at Raashi's 2nd place, then the worship of Pingalaa's husband will pacify him. If Devee Tapatee will be sitting in birth Raashi (Sign), she will create troubles, to pacify her Idaa and Pingalaa will be helpful."

Hearing this Ashwinee Kumaar became the Vaidya (traditional doctors) of Devtaa; and Saavarni Manu and Shani became Raahu and Ketu from their other parts. Because Soorya ran away from them in fear, they still afflict Soorya Dev. That is why Ashwinee Kumaar were born to pacify them. They are pacified by worshipping Ashwinee Kumaar."

Soot Jee said - "Hearing this, Ashwinee Kumaar got very happy and took birth in Shoodra Yoni on earth. Idaa's husband was born in the house of an Aj (she goat) killer and got known as Sadhan (Sadan Kasaaee) and was very obedient to his parents. He used to sell meat weighed by Shaalgraam stone. Then he became the disciple of Kabeer. In his previous life, Sadhan was Satyanidhi Braahman but he showed a fearful cow to a Chaandaal, so his hands were severed in king's court. Pingalaa's husband was born in a shoemaker's house. He was born as Raidaas in Maandaas' house. He went to Kaashee, won Kabeer in arguments, and came to Shankaraachaarya. He got defeated here and became the disciple of Raamaanand.
