Vishwa Dev

According to Mahaabhaarat, Vishwa Dev are 10 in number and are the following - (1) Vasu, (2) Satya, (3) Kratu, (4) Daksh, (5) Kaal, (6) Kaam, (7) Dhriti, (8) Kuru, (9) Pururavaa, (10) Maadrav.

The Smriti says in Ishti Shraddhaa, Kratu and Daksh; in Nandee-Mukh, Satya and Vasu; in Naimittik, Kaal and Kaam; in Kaamaj, Dhuri and Lochan; and in Paarvan, Pururavaa and Maadrav are mentioned. From the above it can be seen that Dhuri and Lochan are not mentioned in the MBH list which mentions Dhriti an Kuru. Some say they are 12.

The Amar Kosh says that the Vishwa Dev are a class of Gan Devtaa, and the Shabd Kalp Drum under this head quotes Jataadhar who gives the 12 Aaditya, 10 Vishwa Dev, the 8 Vasu, the 36 Tushit Devtaa, the 64 Bhaaswar, the 49 Marut, the 229 Mahaaraajik, the 12 Saadhya De and the 11 Rudra.
