Puraan | 3-Vishnu Puraan | 1-Pratham Ansh
1-Creation Creation-Rudra Sarg Paraashar Jee said to Maitreya Muni - "I told you about Taamas Sarg (Taamas Creation) of Brahmaa. Now you listen to Rudra Sarg. In the beginning of the Kalp, Brahmaa thought that he should produce a son like himself. As he thought about it, a blue-red colored boy appeared in his lap. Immediately he started crying loudly and running here and there. Brahmaa asked him - "O child, why do you cry?" He said - "Give me a name." Brahmaa said - "Hey Dev, your name is Rudra, now you stop crying." But still he continued crying and cried seven times more and said the same thing again and again. Then Brahmaa gave him seven more names, fixed their places, gave them wives and sons. They are like this:
* In this copy of Vishnu Puraan, nine names are given for wives instead of eight, so it is difficult to know which wife belongs to whom. The ninth name is "Deekshaa". ** Budh is Moon's son, that is correct, but the story in Bhaagvat says he is from Brihaspati's wife Taaraa. Chandramaa got attracted to Brihaspati's wife Taaraa and got this son. Besides Rohinee was not the only wife of Chandramaa. He has 27 wives (27 constellations) all of whom are Daksh's daughters. But Rohinee is the most beloved wife of Moon, that is why she is named as his wife. Rudra married Daksh's daughter Satee. Later she left her body because of being angry at her father Daksh (see Daksh). Then she took birth in Himvaan and Mainaa's house as Umaa. Shankar again married her. Bhrigu's wife Khyaati gave birth to two sons - Dhaataa and Vidhaataa; and a daughter Lakshmee. Lakshmee was married to Bhagavaan Vishnu. [see Doubts 1) Maitreya said - "It is said that Lakshmee appeared from Ksheer Saagar at the time of Saagar Manthan (see this story), then how come that she was the daughter of Bhrigu and Khyaati?" Paraashar said - "Lakshmee is eternal and never leaves Vishnu alone. As Vishnu is omnipresent, she is also omnipresent. In short, Vishnu is male in all creation and Lakshmee is His female. Still whatever I have heard about Lakshmee Jee from Maharshi Mareechi, I tell you now. Listen to it."
