Raam Goes to Forest        Contd... from Previous Page      Contd... on Next Page

Mahaadev Jee said - "Hey Paarvatee, Now Dasharath wanted to crown Raam as Crown Prince, but his youngest queen Kaikeyee, who was promised to give two boons before, asked her those two boons now - coronation of Bharat and exile to Raam. Dasharath was tied to his words so he sent his son to forest. He got unconscious because of separation of his son. Raam abandoned the kingdom and went to forest with Lakshman and Seetaa. The King died in sorrow of his son. Ministers asked Bharat to rule the kingdom, but he refused to do that. Then he requested Raam to rule the kingdom, but Raam also refused saying that He could not disobey His father's orders. He gave His shoes to Bharat. Bharat accepted them, brought them to Ayodhyaa and keeping them on the throne started ruling Ayodhyaa. All people started some kind of vows till Raam came back to Ayodhyaa.

Indra's Son Jayant and Raam

Raghunaath Jee started living on Chitrakoot Parvat. One day Raam was sleeping keeping His head in Seetaa's lap, that Indra's son Jayant came there assuming the form of a crow and wandered there. He hit his beak on Seetaa's body. Raam picked a straw of Kush, converted it into Brahm Astra and released it at him. It ran towards Jayant. Now Jayant got frightened and he also ran away from there. The crow continued to fly, and the arrow also continued to follow him.  He asked shelter at many places but all replied, "We cannot give you shelter." Then Brahmaa Jee suggested him to go back to Raam and ask for His forgiveness; otherwise there was no place for him. The crow went back to Raam and fell on His feet. He asked His forgiveness. Seetaa Jee also asked Raam to forgive him, and touched his head to Raam's feet. Raam picked him in His hands, made him fearless and sent him to Swarg.

Raam in Dandak Van

After some time Raam went to Atri Rishi's Aashram. Atri Jee worshipped Him and his wife Anusooyaa gave Seetaa Divine clothes and jewelry. They stayed there for one day and next day they went to Dandak Van. There lived a Raakshas named Viraadh, He killed him and came to Sharabhang Muni's Aashram. After having Raam's Darshan, he went to Swarg. Then Raam went to Suteekshn and Agastya Muni's Aashram. There they welcomed them and felicitated them. After this they went to Panchvatee situated on the banks of Godaavaree River. Raam stayed there till the end of 13 years of His exile.

One day Shoorpankhaa, sister of Raavan, came there. As she saw the two most handsome princes, she immediately fell in love with them. She went to Raam and asked Him - "Who are you who lie in Tapaswee's guise here in this Dandak Van? Even Tapaswee do not come here, why have you come here?" Raa said - "I am the son of Dasharath and my name is Raam. He is my younger brother Lakshman, and she is my wife Seetaa. She is the daughter of Raajaa Janak. I have come here by the order of my father. Now you tell me, why have you come here? Who are you and whose daughter are you? Tell me everything."

Shoorpankhaa said - I am the daughter of Vishravaa Muni and sister of Raavan. My name is Shoorpankhaa. I wander here eating Rishi. You seem to be a good King. I have started loving you. You become my husband, I will eat your wife just now." And she got ready to eat Seetaa that Raam cut her nose and ears with His sword. She ran away from there crying and came to her brother Khar and told everything to him. Hearing this he came to Raam taking Dooshan, Trishiraa and thousands of Raakshas with him to fight with Him; but Raam killed everybody. Seeing this Shoorpankhaa went to Raavan and told him everything. Hearing about the killing of Khar and Dooshan like warriors, Raavan got very angry. He came to Panchvatee with Maareech and sent him to wander around Raam's Aashram assuming the form of a golden deer. He took the princes who were following him, far from their Aashram and in the meantime Raavan abducted Seetaa.

The King of vultures Jataayu saw Seetaa abducted s he fought with Raavan, but Raavan killed him and entered Lankaa Puree. He kept Seetaa in Ashok Vaatikaa and went home with the desire to be killed by Raam's arrows. When Raam came back after killing Maareech in deer form, He did not see Seetaa in the Aashram. Some Raakshas had abducted Her, knowing this He got very sad and started crying. He started searching for Seetaa and came across Jataayu. His feathers and feet were cut and he was about to die. He told Him that Raavan had abducted His wife and only he had done this to him. After saying this he died. Raam did his last rites with His own hands by Vaidik method. He gave him His own Lok.

Raam Meets Sugreev

He then proceeded further and came to Maalyavaan Parvat in Matang Muni's Aashram. There He met Shabaree. She welcomed them and offered juicy fruits to them. Raam gave Moksh to Shabaree and proceeded further towards Pampaapur. On the way He killed Kabandh named Raakshas and sent him to Swarg. Then He came to Rishyamook Parvat and met Hanumaan. Hanumaan took them to Sugreev and became instrument of their friendship. At the request of Sugreev, Raam killed his brother Baali and crowned Sugreev as the King of Vaanar. Then he sent Vaanar in all the four directions in search of Seetaa Jee. Hanumaan and Angad etc Vaanar went to South.

He crossed the sea and entered Lankaa. He saw Seetaa sitting under a tree. He gave Her Raam's ring and told Her His message. Then he assured Seetaa, and destroyed the whole Vaatikaa. He killed guards, 5 army Generals, 7 sons of Ministers and Raavan's one son. But he got tied himself by Raavan's another son Meghnaad. He tried to explain Raavan but Raavan did not hear anthing and ordered his people to set fire in his tail. He used that fire to burn the whole Lankaa. After burning Lankaa, taking the identification from Seetaa, he came back to Raam and told Him everything. Sugreev gathered all Vaanar and they all came on the shore of the sea. At that time Vibheeshan, Raavan's youngest brother came in the shelter of Raam abandoning the kingdom, his wife and children. Raam crowned him as the King of Lankaa. He requested Saagar to give Him way to cross him to go to Lankaa but he did not listen to Him, so He picked His bow and dried the sea. Then he came and prayed Him, so He released Varun Astra and filled the sea again. At the suggestion of Saagar He built a bridge over him and crossed the sea.

A very severe fight went on between Raakshas and Vaanar. Once Indrajit tied both Raam and Lakshman with Naag Paash. At that time Garud Jee came and free them. Raam killed Raavan's very mighty younger brother Kumbhkarn. Seeing this Indrajit got very angry, he used Brahm Astra and killed many Vaanar. At that time Hanumaan brought a mountain with herbs whose fragrant air brought life to all of them. At this Lakshman killed Meghnaad. Now only Raavan remained so he came in the battlefield. Raavan used a Power at Lakshman which made him unconscious. Raam filled with rage and started killing Raakshas army faster than  before. Hanumaan brought a mountain with herbs which brought Lakshman's consciousness back.

Raavan was very angry, so he started doing a Hom with the desire of victory, but Vanar destroyed his Hom, so he came out again riding on a Divine chariot. Seeing this Indra sent his own chariot and charioteer Maatali  for Raam. Both fought for 7 days and 7 nights. All Devtaa were watching that fight. Raam cut his heads several times but y my boon they grew again. Then Raam used Brahm Astra. It went to Rasaatal piercing Raavan's chest. In Rasaatal, Naag worshipped Brahm Astra. Thus Raavan was killed by Raam. Raam crowned Vibheeshan on Lankaa's throne and said - "Till this Prithvi, Soorya and Chandra will remain here and my story will be told here, you will rule this. Later you will come to my place along with your sons, grandsons and great grandsons etc."

Then Raam called Seetaa, although She was already pure, still Raam said many bad words to Her. Hearing this Seetaa decided to enter a pyre. Seeing this Brahmaa and Mahaadev etc Devtaa got scared and said to Raam - "Listen O Raam, Seetaa is pure, Satee, you cannot abandon Seetaa. She is the mother of the whole Universe. She has appeared on Prithvi to do good to people. Before Raavan and Kumbhkarn were your Bhakt, only because of Sanakaadi Muni's curse they were born on Prithvi. For their Mukti only She was abducted, so accept Her in the same way as you accepted Lakshmee when she came out of the sea." Agni Dev also supported all this, then only Raam accepted Her. By the grace of Brahmaa Jee all Vaanar came to life.

Then Vibheeshan presented Pushpak Vimaan which Raavan had taken by defeating Kuber, and Raam, Seetaa, Lakshman etc then returned to Ayodhyaa in that Vimaan. They met Bharadwaaj Muni on the way, and then they all came to Nandee Graam. Bharat and Shatrughn with their Ministers etc welcomed all of them. They took them to the palace."
