Uttaraa

Uttaraa is the Mahaabhaarat character. She was the daughter of Raajaa Viraat and Raanee Sudeshnaa. She had three brothers named Shankh, Shwet and Uttar.

We meet her first time when Paandav come to Viraat Nagar to spend their one year of Agyaatvaas (incognito) after completing 12 years of Vanvaas successfully. Arjun was appointed to teach her music and dance. When one year of Paandav's Agyaatvaas was over Raajaa Viraat expressed his desire to marry Uttaraa to Arjun. But Arjun said - "I have never seen her with that viewpoint. I have always treated her as my daughter, so if you don't mind I can accept her for my son Abhimanyu." Raajaa Viraat agreed and she was married to Abhimanyu.

Fortunately, when Abhimanyu died, Uttaraa was pregnant with Pareekshit. Everything should have been all right, but another calamity fell on her after being widow at a very young age (Abhimanyu died at the age of 16). When Ashwatthaamaa had killed Draupadee's five sons, and Arjun went to bring him to Draupadee for punishment, Ashwatthaamaa used Brahmaastra at Arjun. Brahmaa Jee intervened and wanted both to withdraw their Astra. Arjun knew how to withdraw it, so he withdrew it, but Adhwatthaamaa did not know how to withdraw it, so he directed it to Uttaaa's womb, because he wanted to finish Paandav's Vansh. It started burning her fetus. She ran towards Krishn to get help. Krishn did help her. He said - "If I have always spoken truth and kept my promises then this fetus should be alive." And the fetus got alive. Later Pareekshit was born to her.
