Bhaumaasur or Narakaasur-2
[From   Padm Puraan, 5/46]

This story is from Padm Puraan. Narakaasur or Bhaumaasur was a great Raakshas. He was the son of Prithvi. Once Prithvi did a great Tap to get a son. Devtaa appeared before her and asked her to ask for a boon. She said - "I wish to have a son who cannot be killed by anybody." Devtaa said - "You will have a son who will not be killed by anybody, but when you yourself will say "kill him" then only he will be killed." After giving this boon Devtaa went away, and Prithvi thought "why should I say to kill my own son?" She could not understand it so she came back. After some time she had a son who was named as Bhaumaasur or Narakaasur.

Narakaasur was very mighty. He had won Tri-Lok and took away Aditi's (Kashyap's wife) earrings together with many kinds of gems, Indra's Airaavat elephant, Uchchshraivaa horse, Kuber's gems, Padamnidhi named conch etc things.

He used to wander in sky and used to live in a city built in the sky. Once he did a severe Tap and got the Var to be invincible, and with this Var he started doing atrocities against Devtaa and Braahman. So Indra went to Krishn in Dwaarakaa and prayed Him to kill him. Krishn remembered His ride Vinataa's son Garud and Garud immediately appeared there. Krishn rode on him with His wife Satyabhaamaa and went to that Raakshas' city Pragjyotish Pur.

Satyabhaamaa asked - "Why should I?" Krishn said - "When Devtaa gave Var to Prithvi they told her that he will be killed only on your orders. Since you are a part of Prithvi, that is why you are also like his mother. So you will have to order to kill him otherwise nobody will be able to kill him." Satyabhaamaa said - "But then my son is your son too. How will you kill your own son?"

Krishn said - "I have not much concern abut his slaying, but once I made you a promise, I have to fulfill that." "What is that?" Krishn said - "Once Naarad Jee gave me a flower of Kalp tree. I accepted it and sent it to Rukminee. Hearing this you got angry. At that time I promised you that I will bring you the whole Kalp tree. So I have to fulfill that promise now. I want to show you Vaikunth." Hearing this Satyabhaamaa got very happy and sat behind Krishn on Garud.

Krishn asked her why she got angry at the killing of Narakaasur? Satyabhaamaa said - "I thought that after killing Narakaasur, you will bring those 16,000 princess with you, that is why I was not happy." Krishn said - "You should not think in this way. When I give Kalp tree to you, you give that Kalp tree along with me to Naarad Jee, then buy me back from him and keep me with you, then I will always be with you. In this way Indraanee gave Indra and Aditi gave Kashyap. After this my no other wife will be equal to you." (read this story Here)

Thus talking to Satyabhaamaa, Krishn came to Praagjyotish Pur. His city was shining like Soorya. That city was inaccessible even to Devtaa. In fact it had several layers of protection. Krishn cut all of them with His Chakra (Divine disc). he killed Mur named Daitya also who was the guard of Pragjyotish Pur.

As its layers were cut, thousands of Raakshas came out of that city to fight and started hitting Krishn. Krishn also cut all of them with His Shaarng bow. Then He killed all the Raakshas also and blew His Paanchjanya conch. Hearing the sound of that conch, Narakaasur came out of the city riding on his Divine chariot. Both had a fierce fight. During the fight, once Narakaasur hurled a Shakti towards Krishn which Satyabhaamaa deflected by her bare hands only. Seeing he palm bleeding, Krishn got angry and at one moment, He cut his bow with His half-moon shaped arrow and hit his chest with a Divine Astra. Narakaasur fell down on the ground. Satyabhaamaa said - "Kill him." Then only Krishn could kill him. Since Satyabhaamaa was the part of Prithvi, and unless she told to kill him, Krishn could not kill him

On the request of Prithvi, Krishn asked him to ask for any Var. Narakaasur said - "Hey Krishn, I don't need any Var, but for the good of others I ask one Var, that who take bath on my death day, they should not go to Narak." Krishn said - "So be it." And that day was the Chaturdashee (14th day) of Krishn Paksh (dark fortnight) of Kaartik Maas.

After that Krishn entered Narakaasur's city. After Krishn had killed him, Prithvi came to Bhagavaan. She put Vaijayantee Maalaa in Krishn's neck and returned Aditi's ear-rings and Varun's Chhatra (royal umbrella) to Him. She gave one Mahaa Mani also to Him. Then she prayed Him and said - "Prabhu, Bhaumaasur's son Bhagadatt is very frightened, I have brought him to you. Please protect him." Krishn made him fearless and entered Bhaumaasur's palace.

He took all the wealth Narakaasur took from Devtaa and returned to them - Aditi's earrings, Uchchshraivaa horse, Airaavat elephant etc were given to Indra. Narakaasur abducted 16,100 girls from all the kingdoms. They were all imprisoned in his palace. Seeing Krishn all of them took Him as their husband, so Krishn married to all of them at the same time.

He gave Narakaasur's kingdom to his son Bhagadatt, and sent all his queens to Dwaarakaa on Indra's Vimaan (airplane).
