Somak, Raajaa |
Somak, Raajaa His story comes in MBH, G-4-Van/22, while Paandav are on their Pilgrimage. Somak was a king who had 100 wives but no son. After a long time, when he became old, he got a son. All mothers and King loved him very much and cared for him a ,lot. Once an ant stung his hip and the boy cried a lot. His mothers could not quiet him, so the servants reported to the King and the King was able to quiet him. But after this he thought that "no use to have only one son. I married 100 women but have only one son this is not fair, I should have 100 sons." So he said this to his family priest and asked him if there was any way he could get 100 sons? The priest said - "Yes, But you have to sacrifice your only son. We will sacrifice him and your all wives will smell his burning fat; then you will get 100 sons. Your first son will also return with a mark of gold on his back." Raajaa somehow wanted 100 sons so he agreed and he made the arrangement for the sacrifice. When the time came to offer the sacrifice, the priests took the boy and offered his sacrifice, but as he was doing this, as the boy was so dear to all his mothers, the mothers stopped the priest to offer his sacrifice, but the pries forcefully pulled him towards himself and sacrificed him. Raajaa asked his wives to smell his fat which his wives did. After smelling the fat they all fell down on the ground and became pregnant. In due time they all gave birth to sons. Their first son had also returned with a mark of gold. Now the mothers loved him more than before. After some time the priest died, and so died the King too. When Somak went to the god of Karm (Dharm Raaj) he saw that his priest was being grilled in Hell. Somak asked him - "Why are you being grilled in this Hell?" The priest replied - "Because I officiated at your sacrifice." Now Somak loved his priest very much. he went to Dharm Raaj and said to him - "Why are you grilling him in this Hell? Set him free." Dharm Raaj said - "One cannot enjoy or suffer for other's actions." Somak said - "I do not wish to go to any blessed regions without him. I will stay with him only, because I am also responsible for the same sin he has committed?" Dharm Raaj said - "If you wish so, then suffer with him for the same period, then you can go to blessed regions." The King Somak lived with his priest for the same period and after that he went to the blessed regions. He liked his priest so he stayed with him even in Hell.
