Romharshan

Romharshan was a very dear disciple of Ved Vyaas Jee. He came from a Soot family, still Ved Vyaas Jee chose him as his disciple and taught him Itihaas (history - Mahaabhaarat) to impart to others. His father was a Kshatriya and his mother was a Braahman. He is known as Lomharshan also and Soot Jee too. He had a son named Ugrashravaa, he is also popularly known as Soot Jee. He has also told many religious stories to people. Surprisingly enough both are known as Soot Jee only, and most people do not know their real names.

It is said that Rom (pores) of his whole body were always happy that is why he was known as Romharshan (Rom + Harshan).

Vishnu Puraan says that Romharshan Jee had six disciples named - (1) Sumati,  (2) Agnivarchas,  (3) Maitreya,  (4) Sarhsapiyana,  (5) Akritavran, and  (6) Saavarni. Of these 6 disciples, Akritavran, Saavarni and Sarirsapayana were born in the Kashyap Gotra and have composed Puraan Sanhitaa.

Romharshan was killed by Balaraam Jee. When Balaraam Jee went on Teerth Yaatraa, just before MBH war, he came to Naimish Aranya land where Romharshan was telling Kathaa. Seeing Balaraam Jee neither he got up nor he greeted him. Seeing this Balaraam Jee got very angry, he picked up a straw and hit him with it. He died instantly. Later whatever he had, abilities, age etc, Balaraam Jee gave that to his son, and since then his son used to tell those stories to Rishi.
