Some say that he was the son of Maharshi Paraashar, but no mention is found of this son of Paraashar anywhere except his son Ved Vyaas from Satyavatee.

He is most known for to found the Poorv Meemaansaa school of Hindu philosophy. His main works are --
(1) Poorv Meemaansaa Sootra - one of the six Darshan of ancient Indian philosophy. contains about 3,000 Sootra.
(2) Jaimini Bhaarat - a version of Mahaabhaarat, especially known for its Ashwamedh Parv
(3) Jaimini Sootra or Upadesh Sootra - next to Brihat Paraashar Horaa Shaastra (BPHS) giving birth to Jaimini astrology.

When Rishi Ved Vyaas Jee taught his divided Ved to his four disciples - Pail, Vaishampaayan, Sumantu and Jaimini; he taught Saam Ved to Jaimini.

Maarkandeya Puraan is in the form of dialog between Jaimini and sage Maarkandeya.
