Some More Information About Ahiraavan and Mahiraavan

(1) Killing of Ahiraaavan
From Krittivas Raamaayan.  This story shows that Ahiraavan was Mahiraavan's son.

After Mahiraavan's death, his widow queen became furious to take revenge. She thought, "My husband had worshipped Devee Durgaa (Yogadya) with full devotion, then why did Goddess become an enemy of the king? Goddess Durgaa is only responsible for all the disturbances in our kingdom. Only she helped those men and monkey to immolate my husband. I will immerse her idol in water, and then will kill the two men with that monkey." Thinking thus, the queen took her bow and arrows and got ready for war. She particularly attacked Hanumaan.

Hanuman's all attempts to kill her failed in that war. Seeing this Hanumaan got worried. He then kicked her. The queen was pregnant, as a result of Hanuman's kick, a dangerous demon was born from her womb at once. He was mature like a young man just after his birth. That son, named Ahiraavan, started fighting with Hanumaan. Ram and Lakshman were watching this war and were smiling. Hanuman also laughed - "A newly born baby has such courage? Unbelievable."

Ahiraavan became indomitable and Hanuman tried to kill him, but couldn't catch him due to the baby's slippery body (as he was covered with blood of mother's womb). Whenever Hanuman tried to catch him, he slipped off. Then Hanumaan prayed to Pavan Dev. A storm appeared and dust covered the body of Ahiraavan. Then Hanuman easily caught him and slew him. Having defeated all enemies, Hanumaan returned with Raam and Lakshman. They carried Devee Durgaa from Paataal Lok in order to establish her in another suitable place.
