Sarg 16-Raavan Gets Nandee's Shaap

After winning Dhanesh, Raavan went to Shar Van (Reed Forest), where Kaarttikeya was born. There he saw gold Shar Van from which rays were coming out. Then he came to a Van on a Parvat where Pushpak Vimaan stopped itself. Raavan was thinking as why the Vimaan stopped, that Shiv's Nandee whose color was very black came and said - "Mahaadev plays and entertains Himself on this Parvat, that is why all birds, Naag, Yaksh, Dev, Gandharv, Raakshas etc have been prohibited to come here."

Raavan got very angry to hear this. His ear rings shook, eyes got red, he came down of his Vimaan. "Who is this Shankar?" saying he came to the base of the Parvat. He saw there Nandee standing near Shiv-like another Shiv carrying Shool (spear). Raavan laughed seeing Nandee in Vaanar form. Nandee said to Raavan in anger - "You have made a mockery of my Vaanar form that is why Vaanar like me will destroy your family. Nails and teeth will be their weapons. These Vaanar's speed will be as fast as mind's speed."

Without paying any attention to Nandee's words Raavan said to him - "This Parvat has stopped my Vimaan, that is why I will dig out the whole Parvat on the basis of whose prosperity Shiv entertains here like a king." And he started lifting that Parvat. Parvat got shaken, Shiv Gan got worried and frightened. Paarvatee Jee clung to Shiv Jee. Mahaadev just touched the Parvat with the big toe of His foot [and it stabilized]. This hurt Raavan's arms and he started crying loudly. Raavan's ministers took that cry as Pralaya, Devtaa trembled, Samudra (sea) got angry and Parvat also shook. Raavan's ministers advised him "to please Neelkanth Mahaadev (Shiv), otherwise nobody else can help you in this situation". So on his ministers' advice Raavan prayed Mahaadev in various ways.

Mahaadev got pleased after 1,000 years. He released Raavan's arms and said to him - "Because of the loud cry you made because your arms got hurt, your name will be Raavan. Now you can go anywhere without any problem." Dashaanan said - "If you are pleased with me then give me this Var that Devtaa, Gandharv, Daanav, Raakshas, Guhyak cannot kill me - I have got this Var from Brahmaa too. Give me longer life than Brahmaa gave it to me." So at the prayer of Raavan, Mahaadev increased his age and gave him a sword name Chandrahaas. Thus after getting the Var from Mahaadev Raavan again boarded his Vimaan and started torturing Rishi and Muni of Prithvi. Who objected him they got killed; who were intelligent, they accepted their defeat."

Sarg 17-Raavan Gets Vedvatee's Shaap

Agastya Muni further said - "Hey Raam, Thus wandering around, Raavan came to the forest of Himaalaya. There he saw a very beautiful graceful girl [doing Tap]. A desire to have her rose in Raavan's heart and he said to her - "Hey Bhadrey (lady), You are young, so you should enjoy life, why are you doing Tap? O beautiful, You should be the wife of somebody and enjoy. Who are you? Whose daughter are you? Whoever will get you being your husband, he will be blessed."

Hearing this that girl said - "I am the daughter of Maharshi Kushdhwaj. Even Devtaa, Gandharv, Kinnar, Naag, Yaksh all came to me with the desire to marry me, but my father's wish was that I should be married to Vishnu. When Dambhu named Daitya got this news then he got very angry and he killed my father in sleep. My mother burned herself. To fulfill my father's wish I do Tap here in this lonely Van so that Bhagvaan Vishnu takes me as His wife."

Hearing this, mad with desire, Raavan came down of his Pushpak Vimaan and said - "O beautiful, You should not do Tapasyaa. That Vishnu, who you are admiring so much, cannot be even comparable to me in glory and power, so now you become my wife and enjoy the life. My name is Dashgreev and all Devtaa, along with Vishnu are scared of me. Therefore you leave Vishnu and come with me to enjoy." Hearing this Vedvatee said - "Raavan, It is not good to say like this about Him. Vishnu Bhagavaan is the Swaamee of Tri-Lok and all worship Him."

Raavan held her hair, Vedvatee got angry and she freed her hair cutting her hair from her sword-like hands, and said - "O evil soul, You should be cursed, but this will destroy my Tapasyaa, that is why I wouldn't curse you, but you have insulted me, so I will enter Agni and take a vow that I will born again and will be the cause of your death." After saying this Vedvatee produced Agni with the power of her Tap she burned herself in it.
So Hey Raam, The same Vedvatee is Janak's daughter Seetaa who destroyed Raavan through you. Born from the plough-tilled land, this Seetaa was known as Vedvatee in Sat Yug.
