Lakshman 

Lakshman was the third eldest son of Dasharath from Sumitraa. He had one brother Shatrughn who loved Bharat as much as Lakshman loved Raam, the eldest son of Dasharath from Kaushalyaa. it is believed that he was the incarnation of Aadi Shesh Jee who always protects Vishnu. That is why here also on Prithvi he followed Raam and Seetaa to forest. There are some notable events of his life.

(1) The first incident of his life, according to Tulasee's Maanas is "Lakshman-Parashuraam Samvaad", when Parashuraam Jee comes to Raajaa Janak's Seetaa Swayamvar court and enquires about the breaking of Shiv's bow. Both have quite a sharp dialogs.

(2) When Raam had gone to kill the golden deer, and when Raam has shot him, the deer changes his form and calls "Haa Lakshman" and "Haa Seetey" loudly. Hearing their names Seetaa gets worried and asks Lakshman to go to Raam help Him, but Lakshman explains Her that Raam cannot face any trouble, so She should not worry, but She says some words that instigate Lakshman to go from there leaving Her alone. He draws a circle around the hut, and requests Seetaa to be inside that so that she can be safe, but.....

Here this Shlok is controversial as it is not found in ancient manuscripts. In Sundar Kaand when Hanumaan shows the jewelry of Seetaa to Raam and Lakshman in order to identify that whether the woman who threw this jewelry down was Seetaa or somebody else, a list was narrated. But here no such list is given.  When Lakshman was asked whether he could recognize any of the jewelry of Seetaa. Lakshman said that he did not know the jewelry of Her upper body, but could recognize only Her anklets, because he daily saluted Her feet.

The traditionalists attribute the Kainkarya, the dedicated character to Lakshman, and establish this verse as a supreme characterization of Lakshman. Lakshman regarded Seetaa as his mother because the wife of an elder brother is also like mother.

(4) When Sugreev forgets to search Seetaa, Raam gets angry and sends Lakshman to Sugreev. Knowing his nature Raam had to instruct him only to threaten him, not to eliminate him. [ Valmiki Ramayan, 4/31/7]

(5) (In Maanas) When Raam comes to seashore and asks Vibheeshan a way to dry the sea so that His army can cross it and reach Lankaa; Vibheeshan suggests that first He should pray him. Lakshman does not support this and says - "Only lazy people accept this way, you be angry and dry it with our anger. Raam calms him down and prays the sea.

(4) Once Indrajeet hits his Power (Veer Sanghaatinee Shakti) to Lakshman and it faints him. Hanumaan had to go to Himalaya Parvat to bring Sanjeevanee herb to cure him and then only he gets cured.

(5) When Seetaa is received in Raam's camp from Vibheeshan's Lankaa, Raam asks Her to pass a test - Fire Test (passing through Fire). Lakshman gets very angry at this, but cannot do anything. He just keeps weeping and collects woods to prepare a pyre for Seetaa.

(6) Even after Raam becomes King, he has to go to leave Seetaa in forest on Raam's order. He cries a lot and goes to leave Her in the forest.
