Sarg 1-Raam Thanks to Hanumaan

Pleased with Hanumaan's work Raam said - "Whatever Hanumaan did, nobody else could do it on the whole Prithvi. I don't see anybody else, except Garud, Pavan Dev and Hanumaan, who can cross that huge sea. Who else can come out from that city of Lankaa which is so well guarded by Raavan who is infallible even to Devtaa, Daanav, Gandharv, Naag etc. Only Hanumaan like brave could enter it. Hanumaan has done a great service to Sugreev by doing this work.

Whoever does the very difficult work of his Swaamee with love and devotion, is called the very best man. Who does not work any extra for his Swaamee, in spite of being capable to do it to please him, is called medium type of man. And he who does not work even the said work properly, he is called the lowest type of person. By finding Seetaa by Hanumaan the Ragu dynasty, Lakshman and Myself are saved today. I am very sorry that I cannot adequately reward such a person. I can only hug him dearly." Having said thus Raam got up and hugged Hanumaan dearly.

Then Raam said to Sugreev - "Although now we know the whereabouts of Seetaa, but I am very much worried about that huge sea. How all these Vaanar are going to cross it and arrive at the southern shore of the sea? How to take monkeys to the other side of the sea?  What is the way to go there?" After having said thus Raam immersed in thoughts.

Sarg 2-Sugreev Encourages Raam

Sugreev said to worried Raam - "Hey Veer, Why are you so sad about it like an ordinary person? Don't be so sad. After knowing Seetaa and Raavan's palace location, I don't see any other reason for you to be so sad. We will cross this huge sea somehow, attack Lankaa, and destroy your enemy and his Lankaa, All actions dissipated by a person who is unenthusiastic, depressed and disturbed with grief puts him in trouble. All these brave and mighty Vaanar are ready to dive even into Agni for your work. Just do something so that we can kill Raavan, the great sinner, and bring Seetaa back. We may build a bridge to go there.

You should act patiently while we bring Seetaa back. As soon as we will see Lankaa on Trikoot Parvat and Raavan in the battlefield, you must consider Raavan as dead. Without building bridge on Varun's home, i.e. sea, even all Devtaa, including Indra, cannot defeat Lankaa. But as our army will arrive in Lankaa our victory is sure. Our brave Vaanar can take any form they want, that is why you shouldn't worry about anything. So be brave, it will bring competence.

Worry decreases the strength and bravery. I don't see anybody who can face you in the battlefield. The work done by Vaanar will not go waste and you will see Seetaa soon. You don't worry at all, be aggressive, because all fear from aggressive people. Just think about the way to cross the sea, then consider the victory as ours. I see good omen and my heart is filled with joy."

Sarg 3-Hanumaan's Description of Lankaa

Hearing Sugreev's words, Raghunaath said to Hanumaan - "I can cross the sea by the power of my Tap, or by building the bridge, or by drying it up. But tell me, how many forts are there in Lankaa? I just want to know that. Tell me it as clearly, as if I am seeing them with my own eyes. Number of soldiers, gates, all about forts, means of security of Lankaa, Raakshas' houses. I want to know everything. Hey Hanumaan, you are very intelligent, you can tell me everything."

Hanumaan said - "I tell you everything: how Lankaa is secured, how its buildings and its forts are secured, how the army guards it, how Raakshas love Raavan's grace, the prosperity of Lankaa, the terrifying sea, their divisions of army, conveyances,

People are very happy in Lankaa. It has very large number of elephants and chariots, and many Raakshas guard them all. There are four very huge and strong gates with very strong beams to close them. There are machines on each of them to throw stones on incoming people so as soon as any enemy is noted he is ward off at the gate only. There are hundreds of Shataaghni (see "Shataaghni" in side bar) at each gate to ward off the enemy.

It has gem-studded gold boundary wall which is difficult to break in. It has a deep moat also around, in which many crocodiles and fish live. There are four draw bridges to guard the gates. It has wide roads with huge houses on their either side. There are machines also fit there. These machines throw stones on incoming enemy, bridges are drawn and the enemy falls in the moat.

There is one most important and strong draw bridge which has numerous gold pillars and pedestals. Raavan, always inclined to fight is also very careful in taking care of his army and guards his city very well by the powers of his state. (See "Powers of State" in side bar) It is not easily accessible, it is a celestial fort. Surrounded by waters and built on mountain it has four-fold defense including forests and artificial fortification (four-fold defense is water, mountains, forests and artificial means)

Lankaa is situated on the other side of the ocean and is inaccessible. O Raam, There is no passage for vehicles to pass or no means of communication. He has 10,000 Raakshas who always carry darts and guard the East gate with spears. 100,000 soldiers, along with Chaturanginee army guards its South gate. One million soldier trained in all kinds of weapons guard the West gate carrying swords in their hands. One hundred million soldiers in chariots and on horses guard its North gate. About 2.5 million Raakshas wander in Lankaa itself to guard it.

I destroyed all bridges and cleared the hurdles, filled the moats with that wreckage, burned Lankaa and destroyed its boundary wall. A part of Raakshas army was also destroyed. By some way we should cross the ocean then  consider Lankaa destroyed. There is no need to take army there, even Angad, Dwivid, Mayand, Jaambvan, Panas, Anal, Neel, all these commanders, can swim to Lankaa and bring Seetaa here. You just issue the orders and start your journey during an auspicious period.
