Sarg 9-Seetaa Advises Raam

While going to Dandak Van, Seetaa said to Raam politely - "Hey Swaamee, Although you are a Mahaatmaa, but in one way you have committed a sin because you have taken the vow to kill deer and other animals. Therefore you can only be saved from this Adharm, when you have already got punishment for the sin committed willingly. A man is affected by three kinds of sins produced by desire. Lying is the greatest sin, but the other two which I am going to tell you are even greater than this - fascination for other's wife and fury without enmity. I don't see those sins in you. They never were and they will never be, because you have control on your Indriyaan.

Hey Raam, Who enjoy pleasures with other women leaving their own women, and follow violence for their selfish motive, they are the greatest sinners. A man can never get freed from these two types of sins. You are all qualitative. You are already obeying your father by coming to forest. You have vowed to kill Raakshas to protect Rishi and Muni of Dandak Van, that is why you have entered this forest with your brother carrying your bow and arrow, and I say that your vows will certainly be fulfilled. I don't feel comfortable going there I tell you my reasons of doubt. You will certainly find violent animals there, so you will kill them too. For this reason I tell you a story:--

There was a Tapaswee, named Satyavaan, in a forest. Animals and birds etc lived there in peace. One time Indra came in disguise of a soldier carrying his sword and kept that sword at Muni's Aashram to disturb Muni's Tapasyaa. Tapaswee saw the sword and took a vow to protect with justice and started wandering around carrying that sword. He carried that sword even at the time of collecting flowers, roots and fruits. By wandering thus, his nature turned to be unkind, his Tapasyaa started failing and his knowledge disappeared and he lost his way of Dharm. Thus because of the association with that weapon he fell into Narak. The association of fire results in the same.

So Hey Knower of Dharm, I am just reminding you, of course not teaching you, that [please do not kill any innocent being and] do not kill those Raakshas also who have not committed any crime, because whoever brave people kill innocents their respect fades away. Kshatriya's prime duty is to protect noble people with their bow. So where the weapon? Where this forest? Where the principles of Kshatriya? Where the Tapaswee qualities? All this is inconsistent. Let us observe only the laws of the land [where we live].

By carrying a weapon a person loses his mind. Therefore you follow your Kshatriya Dharm in Ayodhyaa. You have left kingdom that is why follow the Dharm of Muni so that our in-laws are happy. Through Dharm comes prosperity, happiness and all can be achieved through Dharm. The essence of this universe is also Dharm. You know everything in three worlds. I tell you all this with my childlike nature, otherwise who can advise you?"

Sarg 10-Raam Consoles Seetaa

Raam said - "Hey Seetey, Whatever you have said, everything is correct and is for my good, You understand Dharm very well, therefore there is no question to contradict it. You yourself have said that Kshatriya carry weapons to protect suffering people. Now-a-days people of Dandak Van are suffering and they themselves came in my shelter.

Muni live only on fruits and flowers, still violent Raakshas do not let them live peacefully and comfortably and they eat them. They came to request me for their protection, so I said - "I am very embarrassed that you had to come to me, instead it was my duty to go to you [to ask for you welfare]. Now tell me what can I do for you?" They said - "Please protect us from these violent Raakshas, many of them can change form. They destroy our Yagya and eat us. We do not see any other person except you who can protect us. When they eat us then we do not want to give them Shaap because we do not want to ruin our Tapasyaa by doing so. So Hey Seetey, I have decided to protect them. Once I have promised, I will keep it till I am alive. I can do anything for Rishi and to keep truth, I can leave you, Lakshman or even my life for their protection. Even if I have not made my vow clear to them still it is my humble duty to protect them."

Thus talking to Seetaa, Raam proceeded towards that beautiful forest.
