Sarg 101-Bharat Explains Himself to Raam

Raam asked Bharat - "Hey Bharat, I am very anxious to know that why have you come in the forest wearing Jataa and animal skin leaving kingdom?" Bharat replied - "Hey Raam, On asking by my mother, Raajaa did this terrible act, because of which Raajaa died of the grief of son. Kaikeyee has committed a very grave crime, because of this she has lost her respect. She could not fulfill her wish but she has become widow. At this time she is living in hell with defame. Hey Bhagvaan, I am your servant, therefore be pleased with your servant and get your Raajya Tilak done. Public and all mothers have come here. Please accept Raajya Abhishek according to the tradition of our family and thus make Ayodhyaa happy.

I put my head on your feet in front of these Braahman. I am your younger brother and disciple, therefore be pleased with me and be kind to me. Accept the Braahman's request who are sitting in front of you. It has been since father's times and you have always accepted their request, therefore please accept their request today also."

Bharat sadly kept his head on the feet of Raam. Seeing Bharat's condition, Raam hugged him and said - "How can, who is born in high family, or is a Tapaswee, or is a pious man like you, commit sin? I don't see any fault in you. You should not abuse Kaikeyee also in a childish way, because elders always have their rights on younger and they have full rights to order anything to a younger.

Hey Bharat, Raajaa could also order us according to his wishes but otherwise also we should regard our Maa as we regard our father. This is according to our Shaastra. Father and mother ordered me to live in forest, then how can I act against their orders? You have been appointed as the king of Ayodhyaa and I have been ordered to live in forest. Raajaa Dasharath died with this order in the presence of Purohit and ministers, therefore Hey Bharat, it is our duty to obey him and you should rule the kingdom got from father. I will also obey their orders [by living in forest]. I do not want to take even Trilok's kingdom without the wishes of father.

Sarg 102-Bharat Requests Raam to Come Back to Ayodhyaa

Bharat said - "If we are breaking the traditions of our family then we do not need Dharm and sermons, because this is our tradition that on the death of the father, his eldest son should take the kingdom and other younger brothers should take care of the kingdom serving their eldest brother. Therefore Hey Raam, to maintain our family traditions, you come to Ayodhyaa with us and have your Raaj Tilak done.

All consider Raajaa as human being, but I see Devtaa in him, because his all actions are strange and are according to Dharm. When you came to forest, I was at Kaikeyee's place with Shatrughn. I was called to Ayodhyaa at the time of my father's death. We have already performed the last rites of father, you may also do that. Water offered (Jalaanjali) by dear people has been considered eternal in Pitra Lok. You were very dear to Raajaa. He died in the expectation of your return."

Sarg 103-Raam Offers Jalaanjali to Dasharath

Hearing the news of father's death, Raam fell on the ground unconscious. All the three brothers started sprinkling water on His face. When He gained consciousness, He started weeping and crying. He said to Bharat - "What I will do in Ayodhyaa after father has died? Who will take care of Ayodhyaa? My life is a waste, what can I do for Raajaa? Raajaa died in my separation and I could not perform even his last rites. Bharat, You and Shatrughn are very fortunate that you could perform his last rites. Now I do not want to go back to Ayodhyaa even at the end of my period of exile, because after father there is nobody there to guard Ayodhyaa. If I will go there then who is going to guide me? I obeyed him when he was there, but now who is going to teach me?"

Raam got very sad and went to Seetaa and said  - "Seetey, Your father-in-law has died and now he is no more. Lakshman, you have lost your father. That is what Bharat is saying." Hearing this both cried. All brothers consoled Raam and asked Him to perform Jalaanjali. Seetaa was also very sad. She could not say anything, She could not look at Raam also.

Raam said to Lakshman - "Bring Ingudee (fig) fruit and my cloth because we have to offer water to him, therefore Seetaa should go in front, after Her you go, and then I will come later, because this situation is very sorrowful." Well wishers of Ikshwaaku Vansh consoled Raam and other princes and took them to Mandaakinee River to offer Jalaanjali.

All princes offered water to Dasharath saying, "Accept our water". Raam said crying facing towards south - "You get my pure holy water in Pitra Lok." After this they all did Pind Daan. After that they kept Ingudee fruit and Ber (a kind of berry) and said - "Be pleased with us and take food because this is our daily food. Who eats grains, he offers his Dev Gan grains. [We eat this that is why we are offering you this.]

They came back to their hut and all cried. Bharat's army got scared hearing crying. They expected a new trouble, but then they knew that maybe they have seen Raam and after knowing about father's death all are crying. All ran towards that sound. With the sound of their run all animals also ran away here and there. They saw Raam in the guise of Tapaswee. Abusing Kaikeyee, they felt embarrassed but ran to see Him. Seeing this condition of public, Raam hugged them all and consoled them.

Sarg 104-Raam Meets His Mothers

Muni Vashishth went to Raam's Aashram with queens. First they came to Mandaakinee River and took bath at the same place where Raam, Lakshman and Seetaa used to take bath. Kaushalyaa said to Sumitraa - "Lakshman definitely has taken water for Raam from here. Blessed is Lakshman who does even menial jobs for Raam and does not feel embarrassed. Lakshman should leave these jobs because He is not able to tolerate these pains now."

After seeing Ingudee fruits, she said - "Raam must have offered them to His father, but I don't consider this food worthy for Dev-like father. He, the Swaamee of the whole Prithvi, will eat this food today? There cannot be anything more sad than this, but this is also true that whoever eats whatever, he offers the same to his Devtaa."

Then she came forward and saw her son. Seeing Him in that condition she cried and cried. Raam got up and greeted His mothers touching their feet. Lakshman also greeted His mothers. Mothers treated them both alike. Seetaa also touched the feet of Her mothers-in-law and stood in front of them. Kaushalyaa hugged Her and said - "O beloved of Raajaa Janak Seetey, why are you tolerating all this in this terrible forest? I am extremely sad seeing your tender body covered with dust."

Raam greeted Vashishth Jee and sat on an Aasan.. Bharat also sat there along with his ministers. All people were thinking as what Bharat would say to Raam.
