2-General Curses-2
Carried From  General Curses-1

Hindu scriptures are full of boons and curses. Boon is grace to be bestowed on somebody for his good, mostly boons are asked but sometimes they are given also when somebody is pleased with somebody. On the contrary curse is never asked, it is only given to somebody when the other person is very angry at him. It always does bad to him. Boons and curses are not only among human beings but also between gods and human beings also. Of course there is no reference of any boon from a human being to a god. Here are given some curses --

(23) Saamb, Cursed by Rishi Durvaasaa
Saamb was Krishn's son. Once many Rishi were staying near Prabhaas Kshetra. Once some Yaadav princes came there and they thought to play with them. So one prince dressed Saamb as a pregnant woman and took him to the Rishi and asked them - "You know everything. This woman is pregnant and wishes to know whether she would give birth a son or a daughter." As Rishi saw the woman, they understood everything, so Durvaasaa Muni said - "She will give birth to a Moosal (pestle) which will become the cause of the destruction of the Yaadav Vansh." Hearing this all princes got frightened and they rushed to Dwaarakaa and told everything to Ugrasen Jee. Ugrasen Jee got very worried as he knew that Rishi do not tell lies. Saamb did give birth to a Moosal. Since nothing could be done then, so Ugrasen ordered to grind that iron Moosal and throw the powder in the sea. The Moosal was ground but still a small iron piece remained un-ground. It was also thrown into the sea. Later that iron powder was grown as grass

Later at one time all Yadu Vanshee went out on the seashore to enjoy. After enjoying themselves, they ate food and drank wine. Suddenly an argument broke and they started fighting together. When their weapons finished, they uprooted the grass (Naagar Mothaa) grown from that Moosal's powder. That grass worked as arrows and killed many Yaadav and in the last all Yaadav were killed in this fight. That iron piece was recovered by a fisherman who sold it to a maker of arrows. He put it on the tip of his arrow and sold it to Jaraa named hunter. Jaraa killed Krishn with that arrow. Thus the grass was used by Yaadav to kill each other and the remaining piece was used by Jaraa to kill Krishn. Thus according to Durvaasaa Muni's Shap that Moosal became the cause of the destruction of the whole Yadu Vansh. [How Krishn died, read "Krishn, Cursed by Durvaasaa"]

(24) King Saudaas, Cursed by Rishi Vashishth
Saudaas was the King in Ikshwaaku Vansh. Once King Saudaas went on a hunting trip. There he killed some Raakshas but left his brother. The brother considered the act of killing his brother unjust and went to the palace of Raajaa to take revenge of his brother assuming the form of a cook. One day when Guru Vashishth Jee came to Raajaa's palace, he offered him food. The cook offered him human flesh in the food. When Vashishth Jee found the food completely uneatable, he cursed to the King in a great anger - "You will become a Raakshas because of this act." When later Vashishth Jee came to know that this was the act of a Raakshas not of Raajaa, then he lessened the duration of Shaap only for 12 years. At that time Saudaas also got ready to give Shaap to Vashishth Jee, but his wife Madayantee stopped him to do so. Then Saudaas asked - "Directions, sky, Prithvi all are living beings, then where I should drop this Curse water?" At last he dropped it on his own feet - that is why he was called as Mitrasaha. His feet became black because of pouring that Jal on his feet - that is why he was named as Kalmaashpaad. Later, after 12 years, Vashishth Jee freed him from his curse.

(25) Shakuntalaa, Cursed by Rishi Durvaasaa
Shakuntalaa was the daughter of Vishwaamitra na Menakaa Apsaraa. Menakaa left her on prithvi and went away to Swarg after her birth. Kanv Rishi brought her up as his own daughter. When she had grown up, Raajaa Dushyant came there hungry and thirsty while on a hunting trip. Shakuntalaa offered him food and drink and Dushyant married her with Gaandharv method. At that time kanv Rishi was not there. Dushyant went back to his kingdom saying to her that he was not taking her to his kingdom at this time, but soon would come back and take her as his queen. He gave his ring to her as his mark and went away. Now Shakuntalaa lived lost in his thoughts only. Once she was sitting lost in his thoughts, that Durvaasaa Rishi came that side and he called her a couple of times, but she was so lost in his thoughts that she did not that Durvaasaa was standing there. At this Durvaasaa Rishi cursed her - "In whoever's thoughts you are lost, he will forget you." At this Shakuntalaa woke up and said - "But I have his ring to remind him." Durvaasaa Muni said - "When you will want to show his to him, you will not find it, so he will not be able to recognize you." Shakuntalaa fell on Muni's feet, prayed him and asked for Muni's forgiveness. Muni forgave her and said - "Later he will find the ring and will take you to his kingdom." The same happened with her.

Dushyant forgot all about her. When he did not come back, and Shakuntalaa had a son, she went to him with the ring. But on the way she stopped at a river to drink water and that ring fell in the river, so when she arrived in the king's court, he did not recognize her, and when when she wanted to show him his ring she could not find it. She came back. A fish had swallowed the ring. A fisherman caught it and when he cut its stomach, he found the King's ring. He recognized it and gave it to the King. Then he remembered her and searched for her. Once he was coming from a battle he saw a 5-year old boy playing with a lion's cub,He got very surprised and asked him about his mother and father. He told his mother's name as Shakuntalaa and father's name as Dushyant. then they all met and the King brought both of them to his palace.
