Sarg 6-Raavan Asks Advice

In Lankaa, Raavan was very much worried seeing the destruction of Lankaa. He said to his Raakshas - "So at last that Vaanar entered Lankaa, destroyed it, and found Jaanakee, demolished palaces and killed my very good Raakshas. Now advise me what should I do so that prosperity befalls on us and everything goes perfect? Learned people say that victory depends on good counseling, so advise me as what should we do to Raam?

There are three types of people in the world - highest, medium and the lowest. I tell you their characteristics. Highest person is that who acts upon counseling of able friends, brothers and his well-wishers. Medium type of person is that who takes only one aim as his duty, pays attention to only one side, and does all jobs alone. The lowest type of person is he who starts work without taking consideration its benefits and losses, does not take Devtaa along, thinks 'I can do it' and then leaves it in the middle."

As these are the three types of people, in the same way there are three types of advices. When all do the same thing with the opinion according to Shaastra (religious books) that is the best counseling. Where people are of different opinions, but then reach on one conclusion by a consensus is of medium type of counseling. In which all have different opinions, oppose each other and their advice is not good even after reaching on one conclusion, that is the lowest kind of advice.

Therefore, now you tell me what I should do. Raam is coming to surround our Lankaa with numerous Vaanar; and that is for sure that they will cross the sea easily with His brother and army. Either they may dry it or they might try some other method. So please advice me which is good for the city and my army."

Sarg 7-Raavan's Ministers Console Raavan

When Raavan said thus to His ministers, all his ministers stood joining their palms and said, in fact they all said this without knowing the powers of enemy's army - "Hey Raajan, We have Parigh, Pattish, double-edged swords etc powers, you need not to worry about the enemy. You got victory over Bhogvatee Puree (the abode of Naag) by winning snakes like Vaasuki, Takshak, Ekjatee. You won Kuber who lives on Kailaash Parvat, has done many Yagya and has the honor of being Shiv's friend. You won him and brought Pushpak Vimaan from there. You won even his sons along with their Chaturanginee armies.

Maya Daanav married his daughter Mandodaree to make you his friend. You won Madhu named Raakshas, the husband of your sister Kumbheenasee, who was very proud of his valor. You fought with those Raakshas for one year who got Var of limitless powers, and won them. Then there you learned many Maayaa tricks. You won even Varun's sons and their Chaturanginee army. You won Yam Raaj's army in the sea full of Shaalmalee (silk-cotton) trees, Kaal Paash like waves and hundreds of snakes in the form of Yam's servants. Death was warded off by you.

Raam is nothing in comparison to all of them. They were very mighty and difficult to overcome. You be patient and do not worry, even your son Indrajeet can kill all of those monkeys. Whatever Var Indrajeet has got from Shiv Jee, it is very rare.

He captured Indra from the huge sea of army of celestials, whose turtles are like elephants, frogs are like horses, alligators are in the form of (11) Rudra, (12) Aaditya, (49) Marut, (8) Vasu, in the fight and brought Him in Lankaa. He freed Him on the request of only Brahmaa Jee - your great-grandfather. Then only He could go to Swarg and all Devtaa bowed him there. Whenever you will order him to kill Raam's army, he will kill them all. So you should not worry about that ordinary man. You will surely kill Raam."

Sarg 8-Raavan's Ministers Encourage Raavan

Then Raavan's blue cloud-complexioned army-chief Prahast said - "Hey Mahaaraaj, When we can defeat Devtaa, Daanav, Gandharv, Naag etc all of them, then what are these two men? We were not very careful at that time [when Hanumaan came here] that is why Hanumaan cheated us, otherwise he couldn't have escaped me. If you order me I can empty Prithvi from Vaanar. You won't have to suffer for your mistake.

Another Raakshas named Durmukh said angrily - "Our this defeat is not pardonable. That Vaanar's destruction of Lankaa is the insult of Raakshas Raaj Raavan. I alone can push all Vaanar back wherever they are - whether they are in the sky, Paataal Lok or Prithvi Lok."

Hearing this Vajradanshtra took his iron club smeared with flesh and blood and spoke - "But what we have to do with this pitiable Hanumaan [means Hanumaan is nothing] when we consider Raam, Lakshman and Sugreev who are difficult to conquer. I can go alone, scare the whole army of monkeys and come back after killing Raam, Lakshman and Sugreev.

My other advice is that who knows alternatives, he can win enemy by tactics. There are thousands of Raakshas who can take form according to their wish. They can go to Raam in the form of human beings and say to Him, "Your brother Bharat has sent us for your help". At the same time we will go from here with our weapons and attack them from sky standing in groups. If they can be trapped like this they can be killed because they won't have any army then."

Hearing this Kumbhkarn's brave son Nikumbh said angrily - "Better you all stay with Mahaaraaj. I alone will go and kill both Raam and Lakshman and the whole army along with Hanumaan and Sugreev."

Hearing this Vajrahanu said - "You all may act as you may wish, you may play, you may enjoy, you may even drink liquor, I alone will go and kill Sugreev, Hanumaan, Lakshman etc along with their army."
