There are three sets of pillars upon which the righteous life rests -
(1) good actions (Yagya or fire sacrifice); proper learning (Adhyayan or study); and charity (Daan)
(2) Unrelenting dedication to religious and other noble pursuits (Tapas or penance)
(3) Continuing immersion in studying and learning (Brahmcharya)
