Miscellanea-5
Apart From Raadhaa Who was the next VIP Gopee?
She was Chandraavalee. The Padm Puraan mentions 18,000 Gopee among
whom 108 are most important. Among those 108, 8 are considered more
important. Among the 8, two have a special position, Chandraavalee and
Raadhaa Raanee; and between these two, Padm Puraan tells that Shree
Raadhaa Raanee is the foremost.
When was Bhaagvat Kathaa told to Pareekshit?
Padm Puraan,
5/27, sheds some light on this. It says that it was told after 30
years of Krishn's leaving for His Dhaam, on Bhaadrapad Shukla 9th, Shuk Dev
Jee started telling this Kathaa. After the King Pareekshit heard this Kathaa,
200 years of Kali Yug passed, then Gokarn Jee told this Kathaa to Dhudhukaaree
on Aashaadh Shukla 9th. After that 306 years of Kali Yug passed. Then Sanakaadi
Muni told this Kathaa to Naarad Jee on Kaarttik Shukla 9th.
[MBH,
G-0/9 does not approve the hearing of Bhaagvat Kathaa by Pareekshit
he died in his own mansion which he built to save himself from Taksak, but
then seeing Takshak i front of him, h reconciled with his fate, so he died
by Takshak bite]

Shree Shuk started his exposition of Shreemad Bhaagavat on the 9th of
Bhaadrapad (Aug) after 30 years of Kali Yug had passed, commencing with
the departure of Shree Krishn.

Who Says that Hans can separate milk from water?
Where it says that swans, when given a mixture of water and milk, can
drink just the milk and leave the water behind? I first read that in
William Buck's retelling of the MBH and it says online it's a Vaidik
reference, but I'd love to have the exact citation -- anybody knows?
What you talk of is known as
'Neer-Ksheer Vivek' or the water-milk wisdom. You can also look at Bhagvad
Geetaa 2.64-66 for a reference of the discerning mind of a Yogee. Probably
2nd Shlok from Subhaashit Panchakam.
Hansah shweto bakah shweto, ko bhedo bak hansayoh?
Neer ksheer viveketu, hanso hansah bako bakah!
Meaning - Hans, a swan is white so is a Bak i.e.
a stork. For vision there is not much difference between the two, but when the question of
separating milk from water arises, it is the sole ability of the Has (swan) alone.
Aatmaa has a symbolic metaphysical association
with swan the Shwet Hans representing attributes of spirituality, serenity, truth, purity and
divine discrimination (Vivek). The Aatmaa is imagined in form of Hans.
The rest of the Shlok of Subhaashit Panchakam:
(perhaps Shlok Nos 2407-2411)
According to
Bhaagvat Puraan, 8/5
4th Manvantar - Gaj and Graah incident
6th Manvantar - Saagar Manthan
7th Manvantar - Vaaman Avataar
