16-Achalaa Saptamee Vrat
9-Bhavishya Puraan, 4-Uttar Parv-53, p 430-431

Achalaa Saptamee Vrat
(Chap 53) Yudhishthir asked - "Bhagavan, You told me the importance of Maagh Snaan (bath), but if somebody is not able to take bath in the morning, then what he should do? Women are very tender, how can they tolerate Maagh Snaan? So tell me the way so that even women can get all the fruits of Maagh Snaan with a little effort only."

Krishn said - "Hey Yudhishthir, That is Achalaa Saptamee Vrat. In reference to this, listen to this story. There lived a beautiful prostitute named Indumatee in Magadh Desh. One day in the morning she thought - "This world is mortal and the life is short lived. Whichever day is passed does not come back. On whichever day one does not give any donation, or do any Punya or Tap or Havan goes waste." Thinking thus she went to the Aashram of Vashishth Muni and said - "Mahaaraaj, I have neither donated anything, nor did any Jap, Tap Vrat, or fast etc, nor I worshipped Shiv, Vishnu etc Devtaa. I am very fearful now and I have come in your refuge, please tell me some kind of Vrat so that I can get Moksh."

Vashishth Jee said - "O Prostitute, You take bath in Maagh Maas, on the 7th day of Shukla Paksh. This will give you everything. On the 6th day, keep fast - take food only once. Next day, on the 7th day, go to some river or pond, take bath and do Deep Daan (light the lamp near river or pond). Later donate something to your capacity. It will do good to you."

Indumatee came back to her house and did as Muni instructed her to do. Enjoying many kinds of pleasures till she died and after her death she came to Swarg and was appointed as the chief Apsaraa of Indra's court. This Achalaa Saptamee is a giver of all kinds of good fortune."

Krishn further said - "On the 6th day, take food only once and worship Soorya Dev. Rise early in the morning and take bath before sunrise. Light a lamp with Haldee (turmeric powder) colored wicker in sesame oil in a golden, silver or copper lamp. Keeping that lighted lamp on her head, she should meditate with this Mantra. ( see the Mantra on p 431) Then float that lamp on water. Take bath again and worship Devtaa and Pitar and draw a lotus flower with its stem with sandalwood paste, establish the idols of Shiv and Paarvatee in the center of that lotus flower and worship them with Pranav Mantra. Start from east and the names Bhaanu, Ravi, Vivaswaan, Bhaaskar, Savitaa, Ark, Sahastrakiran, and Sarvaatmaa, in this order worship all eight petals, such as "Om Bhaanavey Namah", "Om Ravayey Namah", etc.

Thus after worshipping Soorya properly with flowers, Dhoop, Deep, Naivedya, cloth saying "Swasthaanam Gamyatam" bid him farewell (Visarjan). Later in a copper or clay pot, put some jaggery, Ghee (clarified butter) and sesame seed powder and a golden leaf shaped earring in it. Cover it with a red cloth and worship it with the wish for relief from bad luck and sorrows, and donate it to a Braahman. Then pray saying like this - "Saputra Pashu Bhrityaaya Mayrkoayam Preeyataam". And give that donation to Guru (cloth, sesame seed and Dakshinaa) and feed Braahman to one's capacity.
[This Saptamee is known as Rath, Soorya, Bhaanu, Ark, Mahatee, Putra etc with several names in Puraan and different methods of doing it are given in those Puraan, but all methods fulfill wishes]
