9-Bhavishya Puraan, 1-Braahm Parv, p 104-122 This section, Braahm Parv, is on p 1-222 of the book and mostly contains information about Soorya. Places of Soorya Worship (Chap 79) Sumantu Muni said - "Raajan, Saamb further asked Naarad Jee - "Now you please tell me about Soorya's wives and Dindee and Pingal etc." Naarad Jee said - "Soorya has two wives - Raagyee (also called Dyau, means Swarg) and Nikshubhaa (also called Prithvi). Soorya meets Raagyee on Paush Shukla Saptamee; and Nikshubhaa on Maagh Krishn Saptamee. This meeting, with Raagyee produces water; and with Nikshubhaa produces various kinds grain wealth for the good of Prithvi. Seeing grains, Braahman do Havan with happiness which satisfies Pitar and Devtaa by its Swaahaa and Swadhaa sounds. Soorya's Family Saamb, Brahmaa's son was Mareechi, Mareechi's son was Kashyap, Kashyap's son was Hiranyakashyap, Hiranyakashya's son was Prahlaad and Prahlaad had the son named Virochan. Virochan's sister was married to Vishwakarmaa and they had a daughter named Sangyaa. She is called Raagyee. Mareechi had a daughter named Suroopaa who was married to Maharshi Angiraa. They had a son named Brihaspati and a daughter. Their daughter was married to 8th Vasu named Prabhaas, and they had the son named Vishwakarmaa who knew all kinds of skills. He is known as Twashtaa also. He became the carpenter of Devtaa. His daughter's name was Sangyaa and she is known as Raagyee, Dyau, Twaashtree, Prabhaa, Surenu also. She produced a woman from her shadow that is called Nikshubhaa. Sangyaa was very beautiful and Pativrataa, but Soorya did not go to her in human form and with his powers, his form was not very appealing to Sangyaa. Sangyaa gave birth to three children, but being not able to tolerate his powers, she went to her father's house and stayed there for thousands of years. When her father asked her to go to her husband's house then she went to Uttar Kuru Desh and passed her time there. She left her shadow there in the form of Chhaayaa. Soorya took her as Sangyaa. She had two sons, Shrutshravaa and Shrutkarmaa, and one daughter named Tapatee. Shrutshravaa will be known as Saavarni Manu, and Shrutkarmaa is known by Shanaishchar. Chhaayaa didn't love Sangyaa's children as she did to her own children. Sangyaa's elder son tolerated this insult from Chhaayaa, but his younger brother Yam (Dharm Raaj) could not tolerate it, so he lifted his foot to kick her. Seeing this angry mother Chhaayaa gave him Shaap - "You are ready to kick your mother, your foot will fall broken." Hearing this Yam went to his father and told everything. Hearing his son he said - "There should be some reason for this. All sins have their Praayashchit but not of mother's. But I love you very much, so I tell you one way, if worms take the flesh of your foot to ground then your foot will also be saved and your mother's Shaap will also be true." Sumantu Muni said - "Then Soorya went to Chhaayaa and asked her why didn't she love them? All children should be the same for the mother." Hearing this Chhaayaa kept quiet, but Soorya got angry and got ready to give her Shaap. Chhaayaa got scared and told him the truth. Soorya went to his father-in-law Vishwakarmaa. Vishwakarmaa worshipped him and said - "Dev, My daughter couldn't tolerate your powers so she went to Van and she is doing Tapasyaa for your beautiful form. Brahmaa Jee has told me that if you agree then I should trim you to give you beautiful form." Soorya agreed to it. Vishwakarmaa put him on lathe in Shaak Dweep and trimmed him. Soorya also knew that his wife Sangyaa was living in Uttar Kuru in the form of Ashwinee (mare), so he assumed the form of a horse and went there. Later they had a twins Ashwinee Kumaar. Their names are Naasatya and Dastra. Then Soorya showed Sangyaa his real form, seeing his changed form Sangyaa got very happy and went to him. Then they had one son more Revant who was as beautiful as Soorya Bhagavaan. Thus Soorya has Saavarni Manu, Yam, and Yamunaa (from Sangyaa), Shanaishchar, Vaivaswat Manu and Tapatee (from Chhaayaa); and two Ashwinee Kumaar and Revant (from Sangyaa again) as his children. Saavarni Manu will be 8th Manu. He is doing Tapasyaa on the back side of Meru Parvat. Saavarni's brother Shani has become a planet and their sister Tapatee became a river which comes out from Vindhya Parvat and falls in western sea. Tapatee River meets with Saumyaa River, and Ganga River meets Vaivaswatee (Yamunaa) River. Both Ashwinee Kumaar are traditional doctors of Devtaa. Soorya appointed his Revant named son the Lord of horses. Who starts his journey by worshipping Revant, he never faces any difficulty on the way. Whatever powers, Vishwakarmaa trimmed from Soorya, he produced Bhojak to worship Soorya. Whoever reads or listens to this story, he becomes free from all kinds of sins and lives in Soorya Lok." Vijayaa Saptamee Vrat (Chap 80-81) Naarad Jee said - "Hey Saamb, Now you listen to a dialog between Dindee and Brahmaa Jee about Soorya worship and giving Daan for him. Brahmaa Jee said - "Dindee, By worshipping, praying, doing Jap and keeping fast for him fulfills all kinds of wishes. As soon as the head touches the ground to greet Soorya, all sins are destroyed immediately. Who circumambulates Soorya, he gets the fruit of circumambulating the whole Prithvi. He becomes free from all diseases and attains Soorya Lok in the end. But be careful about cleanliness while circumambulating. One should not wear shoes while doing it. Who worships Soorya Bhagavaan by eating only once on Shashthee or Saptamee, he lives in Soorya Lok. One should offer red flowers on Krishn Saptamee, and white lotus flowers on Shukla Saptamee and Modak (Laddoo) etc things. There are seven Saptamee - Jayaa, Vijayaa, Jayantee, Aparaajitaa, Mahaajayaa, Nandaa and Bhadraa. If Shukla Saptamee falls on Sunday, it is called Vijayaa Saptamee. Any Daan, Snaan (bath), Hom, fast, worship done on that day destroys all sins. In this fast, eat only once in the evening on Panchamee; eat only once in the night on Shashthee and do not eat at all on Saptamee; and do Paaran on Ashtamee." 12 Ravi Vaar (Sundays) and Nandaaditya Vrat (Chap 82-93) Dindee asked Brahmaa Jee - "Who keep fast on Ravi Vaar (Sundays) what kind of fruit they get? And tell me about the glory of Vijayaa Saptamee too." Brahmaa Jee said - "Who do Shraaddh on Ravi Vaar, they stay healthy for seven lives; and who keep Nakt Vrat (eating once in night) and read Aaditya Hridaya Stotra , they become free from diseases. Who keep fast and do Jaap of Mahaashwetaa Mantra (Gaayatree Mantra). By doing Jaap of Mahaashwetaa Mantra and 6-letter Mantra "Aum Khakholkaaya Swaahaa" one surely attains Soorya Lok. Soorya's 12 days are like this - Nand, Bhadra, Saumya, Kaamad, Putrad, Jaya, Jayant, Vijaya, Aadityaabhimukh, Hridaya, Rogahaa, and Mahaashwetaa-priya.* Note - Method of the Vrat on all these days, Soorya's 12 Sundays, fruits of using various things and Daan etc to worship Soorya, are given here p 108-113. Fruits of Reading Puraan in Soorya Temple (Chap 94) Brahmaa Jee said - "Dindee, I tell you a dialog between Kaarttikeya and myself. Once Kaarttikeya came to me and said - "Bhagavan, Today I went to Soorya Bhagavaan and sat there. I saw a surprising thing there. Seeing a man coming on a gem studded Vimaan (airplane), Soorya Bhagavaan rose from his Aasan and made him sit by holding his right hand. He worshipped him and said - "You have pleased us, now you live with us till the Great Deluge occurs. After that you go to where Brahmaa lives." In the meantime, another man came to him and he treated him in the same way. I got very surprised to see this so I asked him - "Dev, All other Devtaa worship you, then who were these people who were worshipped by you? What Punya they had done, so that you yourself worshipped them?" Soorya Bhagavaan said - "There is a city named Ayodhyaa where my descendents rule. Once there lived a Dhanpaal Vaishya who built a Soorya temple there, appointed some good Braahman and asked them "to read Puraan to all four Varn, so that Soorya gives me Var for seven lives. Accept wages for one year." They accepted to read Puraan there. The Vaishya died in six month time. This was the same Vaishya. I sent Vimaan to bring him. Whatever satisfaction is achieved through reading or listening, this was the fruit of the same. I am not so much pleased as I am happy to hear Puraan. And the second man was a Braahman who lived in the same city. Once he went there to listen that Kathaa and pleased with it gave 1 Maashaa (about 1 gram) gold to that Braahman. This is his Punya. When somebody worships the teller of the Kathaa, he worships me too. I don't love even my own children so much as I love the Kathaa tellers. I love Puraan more than Ved. Ved are difficult to understand that is why I created Itihaas and Puraan. Who gives Dakshinaa to teller he attains Soorya Lok. One should bathe Soorya at such a place where that water could not be crossed over." Method of the Vrat and worship on Jayaa, Jayantee, Aparaajitaa, Mahaajayaa, Nandaa and Bhadraa Saptamee, are given here p 115-119. Tithi Devtaa and the Fruit of Their Worship (Chap 102) Sumantu Muni said - "Although Soorya likes all Tithi (days), but he likes Sapamee more than others." Shataaneek asked - "Why is it so?" Sumantu Muni said - "Listen to the dialog between Bhagavaan Vishnu and Brahmaa Jee in this regard. Brahmaa Jee said - "Vishno, When all Tithi were being assigned to Devtaa, Saptamee Tithi was assigned to Soorya. Whichever Tithi was assigned to whichever Devtaa, he was called the Lord of the same Tithi, therefore if those Devtaa are worshipped on their own Tithi, then only they give desired fruits. Soorya has assigned (1) Pratipadaa to Agni, (2) Dwiteeyaa to Brahmaa, (3) Triteeyaa to Kuber, (4) Chaturthee to Ganesh, (5) Panchamee to Naag, (6) Shashthee to Kaartikeys, (7) Saptamee to himself, (8) Ashtamee to Rudra, (9) Navamee to Durgaa, (10) Dashamee to Yam Raaj, (11) Ekaadashee to Vishwedev Gan, (12) Dwaadashee to Vishnu, (13) Trayodashee to Kaam Dev, (14) Chaturdashee to Shankar, (15) (Poornimaa) Poornimaa to Chandramaa, and (Amaavasyaa) Amaavasyaa to Pitar. These 15 Tithi are of Chandramaa. In Krishn Paksh, all Devtaa slowly drink the Kalaa of Chandramaa and Chandramaa appears again with 16th Kalaa in Shukla Paksh. Thus this 16th Kalaa is eternal. Soorya himself lives in it. Soorya Dev himself waxes and wanes these Tithi, that is why he is regarded the Lord of all Tithi. By just remembering him, he gives good Gati to people. How other Devtaa give fruit on their Tithi, I tell you now. (1) If one worships Agni Dev on Pratipadaa and does Havan with Ghee, he gets all kinds of food and wealth. (15) By worshipping Moon on Poornmaasee, he controls the whole world. (15) When Pitar are worshipped on Amaavasyaa, they give children, wealth, protection, long life and strength. They give these things even without fasting. Nakshatra Devtaa and the Fruit of Their Worship In the same way Nakshatra Devtaa who live in Nakshatra only, when worshipped, give desired fruit. (There are 27 Nakshatra). (1) In Ashwinee Nakshatra, one should worship Ashwinee Kumaar, this makes one long lived and disease free. (2) In Bharanee Nakshatra, one should worship Yam Dev with black flowers and Karpoor to become free from Deathlike Yog. (20) In Poorv-Aashaadhaa Nakshatra, one should worship and do Havan for Jal (water) Devtaa, he frees from mental and physical worries and troubles. (21) In Uttar-Aashaadh Nakshatra, one should worship Vishwedev and Vishweshwar with flowers, one can get everything by that. (22) In Shravan Nakshatra, one should worship Bhagavaan Vishnu with white, yellow, and blue flowers, he gives Lakshmee and victory. (27) In Revatee Nakshatra, one should worship Pooshaa with white flowers, he always does good and gives victory to people. All these worships done with Bhakti according to one's capacity, give desired results. If somebody is ready to travel, or wants to start a new work, he must worship Nakshatra Devtaa. Soorya Himself said thus." Brahmaa Jee said - "Hey Madhusoodan, You also worship Soorya, by worshipping him by daily worship, Pranaam, service, fast, Havan etc one attains Soorya Lok being sinless."
