5-Brihaspati Vaar |
Fast on Brihaspati Vaar (Thursday) is devoted to Brihaspati Dev - the planet Jupiter. It promotes greater learning and prosperity. Prayers must be offered to Brihaspateshwar Mahaadev, followed by reading or hearing the Kathaa. One must preferably wear yellow clothes and use yellow sandalwood. Food must be eaten only once. One must include yellow pulses in the meal - yellow split Moong Daal without skin, or yellow Chanaa Daal without skin. To appease Brihaspati one should wear topaz in gold. When inclined to give charity one should give yellow things like turmeric, salt, yellow clothes, rice, yellow pulses, gold and topaz. You may keep
Brihaspati Vrat as many times as you want. Generally people keep 7, 11, 21,
40, 48, 51, or 108 times or for Life Time. Its not necessarily to observe
Vrat, but Vrat is considered a shorter route to appease God. Only listening
of
Kathaa will also do. Even if you don’t listen to Kathaa or do any thing
for Brihaspati Dev, you may be benefited by just thinking of its “Mahimaa”. One should worship Lord Vishnu on this day. They should keep fast, offer homage to Jupiter, avoid eating bananas. On the Full Moon days they can also fast and observe a vow of silence and at night rather than sleep they should chant Mantra and meditate, they can receive great help during these 24 hours. Hindu can recite Vishnu's Mantra and Vishnu Saharstranaam chant. If somebody follows this practices every Full Moon day, the Full Moon brings good luck and satisfaction of all desires. One can also combine this with worship of Satya Naaraayan Poojaa and listen to His Kathaa. Jap repetition
of the Mantra of any planet should be completed within the ascending cycle
of the Moon (after Amaavasyaa in the Shukla Paksh) and should be repeated
19,000 times.
