24-Society in Ved

Rig Ved 1-72-2 and 8 mention that "the greatest service to God is to spread the spirit of Ved with honesty, straight-forwardness, without deceit of any kind, for all to enjoy true and spiritual happiness." The Ved still represent the Eternal Truths in the Purest Form ever written (Paul William Roberts). Thus Hinduism is the perennial philosophy that is the core of all religions (A. Huxley).

It is to know that there is no specific word for Society in the Ved. The word "society" can be deduced from various hymns depicting "We feeling" like "Iddm Nan Mam", "Vishwa Bandhutwa", "Nish-kaam Karm" and many prayers for the welfare of mankind and others. Perhaps the aim in the Ved was to create one ideal Society for the entire mankind through stages, even though there could be a large number of states, polities, governments etc. The purpose of Human Birth is to work for others welfare and assist the Supreme Architect (Vishwakarmaa) in the maintenance of His Grand wondrous Design, (Rig Ved, 4-33-1, 1-124-1 and 1-48-6).

There is another hymn in Atharv Ved stating that "we are all co-workers for prosperity and make riches flow amongst the people on the path of Dharm and Rit (Atharv Ved, 1-15-2, 4). There is also a common prayer in Rig Ved for the welfare of all human beings. We should create concord amongst the human beings, love each other as the cow loves the calf born to her, we all speak gently and in a friendly manner, let our water store be common and common also our share of food. Morning and evening let there be loving heart in all of us (Rig Ved, 10-191-2 to 4), (Atharv Ved, 3-30-1 to 7).

Yajur Ved 36-18 has a prayer to God, "Let all Beings look on me with friendly eyes. May I look on all beings with friendly eyes - may we look each other with friendly eyes". Thus a large number of hymns refer to "We feeling" without specifically mentioning the word Society.

Vaidik metaphysics creates a large number of models for achieving an ideal society. These models could vary in different parts of the countries of the world based on climate, physical conditions; food habits etc .The basic models provided in the Ved can be improved through discussions and deliberations in "Sabhaa and Vidhaataa. There is no effort made by ancient seers and sages to create any kind of rigidity as in their opinion, any ideal society needs flexibility and elasticity "without compromising Dharm, Satya and Rit and all a-priori principles.

Vaidik society thus not only aims at creating perfection in its institutions and organizations but also creates worthiness in the members of such a society. To achieve both the noble aims, the path finders have provided permanent truths to arrest decline in social organizations, systems, human conduct and also to make people know at all times the noble and divine concepts of good, virtue, justice, harmony, concord and social welfare.

To achieve an ideal Vaidik Society, Rishi and Muni of yore also provided a comprehensive Education system, welfare Economics of matter with unsuspected vitality, (Arth), politics as a Noble Endeavour, physical sciences and development of scientific temper, Ethics, Tri-varg (Value System), four divine professions (Chatvar Varnaashramchu) and ensuring the 5th non-divine profession (A-varn, Vritra etc) does not merge with four divine Varn.
