3-Sulochanaa

Sulochanaa

There is nowhere Sulochanaa's name is mentioned - neither in Tulasee's Maanas, nor in Vaalmeeki's Raamaayan. Sulochanaa was the daughter of Shesh Naag and was Raavan's son Meghnaad's wife. She was a Satee like her mother-in-law Mandodaree. Two stories about her are very famous and popular. I do not know where these stories come from, still they are given here.

Sulochanaa and Lakshman
Lakshman himself was Shesh Naag. So when Raam's army had landed in Lankaa, Sulochanaa went to Lakshman. She said to him - "You are my father, I am your daughter. No father can see his daughter as a widow. No matter whoever kills him, but you should not kill him." Lakshman Jee said - "I will pardon him for his two attacks but if he attacked me the third time, I will not leave him." Hearing this Sulochanaa went away.

Meghnaad used his weapons two times - (1) once he used Veer Ghaatinee Shakti for which Hanumaan had to go to drone Parvat to bring Sanjeevanee herb; (2) second time he used Naag Paash by which he tied both Raam and Lakshman. At that time also Hanumaan had to call Garud to eat snakes.
[Told by Pranav Pandya in one of his lectures delivered during Nava Raatri, April, 2013]

Sulochanaa as Satee
When Meghnaad went to fight with Lakshman, Sulochanaa came to wish him well, put Tilak on his forehead and sent him to the battlefield. Unfortunately Meghnaad was killed by Lakshman. Lakshman threw his one arm in Lankaa. It fell in the palace of Meghnaad. Sulochanaa saw it and recognized it as her husband's arm. She was very sure that her husband was invincible, the she was curious to know that who killed him, so she got to it and said - "If I am Pativrataa to my husband, please write the name of his killer," It is said that the arm write the name of Lakshman on the floor.
[Heard from my father]

But nowhere her names is found.

Both the stories just seem to be real parables as -
(1) if Lakshman assured Sulochanaa not to kill Meghnaad on two attacks, it is all right, but we do not find any third attack by him; because according to Maanas Vibheeshan reports to Raam that "Meghnaad is doing Yagya, if he has completed his yagya, he will be invincible, so if you have to kill him, kill him now. Send Lakshman to kill him."  V-Raamaayan

(2) And since Meghnaad did not go to the battlefield from his palace, there was no need for Sulochanaa to put Tilak etc. he went to do Yagya and there only Lakshman came and killed him. Yes, his arm might fall in the courtyard of his palace and that might have written Lakshman's name on asking by Sulochanaa.
