Sarg 87-Vibheeshan-Meghnaad Dialog

Vibheeshan was happy that Meghnaad had not yet completed his Havan. He proceeded forward with Lakshman. At one place, he showed Lakshman Meghnaad's Havan place. There was a very huge banyan tree. Vibheeshan said to Lakshman - "Meghnaad offers sacrifices to Bhoot (ghosts) before he goes to battlefield, that is how he becomes invisible and then kills enemy with best kind of weapons. We should not let him come back under this tree again and kill him only outside this tree along with his Saarathee."

Lakshman stood there only, and made a loud sound of his bow. He saw Meghnaad sitting in his shining chariot. Lakshman called on him - "Come Meghnaad, come. I am challenging you for the fight, so you come and fight with me." Meghnaad saw Vibheeshan with Lakshman, so he said to Vibheeshan - "You are born in Lankaa, you are brought up in Lankaa, you are real brother of my father that is how you are my uncle. I am like your son then why do you have enmity with me? O A-Dharmee, It seems that neither you love your friends, nor you love your community, nor you love your relations. That is why gentlemen do not praise you. Your situation is very bad because you have abandoned your community and accepted the dependence of others. Didn't you know the difference between living with your own people and living dependent on others?

Even if your own brother is without qualities and other one is qualitative, still your own without quality brother is better than the qualitative other person. Because the other person is still other person only. Who leaves his own side and joins the other side, he is only hurt by the other side after his own side is destroyed. Hey Nishaachar (who wanders in night - Raakshas), Nobody can behave in this way with his own people as you have behaved."

Vibheeshan said - "Are you unfamiliar with my nature? Do not behave like this with elders. Although I am born in Raakshas Kul (family), but I have one different characteristic from them that is politeness which is the quality of humans. I do not want to do all these harsh Karm, nor I want to do any A-Dharm. Then does one exile his own brother, just because he has different nature from him? One gets happiness after abandoning such people who sin and who do not follow Dharm in the same way as one gets happiness by separating a poisonous snake from his body.

Who snatches other's wealth; who abducts and rapes other's wives and who cheats on his own friend, all three destroy a man soon. Killing Maharshi, fighting with all Devtaa, being proud, developing enmity, going on the opposite paths, these are the bad qualities in my brother. They all destroy life and prosperity. These bad qualities cover the good qualities as clouds cover the Sun. Only because of these bad qualities I have left my brother and your father.

Now neither Lankaa will remain, nor you nor your father will remain alive. You are very proud of yourself and you are still immature and uneducated and ignorant. At this moment you are tied in Kaal Paash, so you may say anything to me whatever you want to say. You have said such harsh words to me that is why now you will not be able to go under the banyan tree. You cannot live after fighting with Hanumaan. You can use all your weapons but you cannot win Lakshman."

Sarg 88-Lakshman Fights with Meghnaad

Meghnaad got very furious with Vibheeshan. He came forward and sat in his chariot with black horses. Meghnaad took his bow, looked at Lakshman sitting on the back of Hanumaan and said to all - "Today you see my might and shower of arrows coming out of my bow which are intolerable for others. Today my arrows will burn you like fire burns cotton and oil. My Shool Power Rishti will send you to Yam Lok today. At that time it was night, and you got unconscious, so you may not remember that night."

Lakshman said - "O Raakshas, Whatever you said you would do, you cannot do them. Who is beyond Karm through his duties, only he is intelligent. If you consider to fight being invisible, it is thieves' way, not of brave people. I am standing in front of you, show me your archery." At this Meghnaad started showering arrows on Lakshman. His snake-like arrows started hissing near Lakshman. He continuously pierced Lakshman's body with his sharp arrows. He said to Lakshman - "Today these sharp arrows will end your life. Jackals, dogs and vultures will eat your body. Raam will see His brother dead today."

Lakshman said - "Leave speaking, do something, you are boasting without doing anything. Do something so that I can trust your words. I will kill you without boasting, or without saying any harsh words." And Lakshman shot five arrows at Meghnaad's chest. Meghnaad shot three arrows at Lakshman. It was a fierce fight. Both Lakshman and Meghnaad, were mighty, both were gracious and both were equally infallible. Both fought like lions. While fighting they looked like two huge planets, or Indra and Vritraasur. Both shot arrows like rain, both fought happily.

Lakshman shot snake-like arrows at Meghnaad. hearing the sound of Lakshman's bow, Meghnaad's face changed and he looked at Lakshman. Seeing Meghnaad's face and Lakshman's fight, Vibheeshan said - "Hey Lakshman, Whatever characteristics are appearing in Raavan's son Meghnaad, I know them. He will live only for a short period, so you better hurry." Lakshman's arrows hit Meghnaad and for a few moments Meghnaad lost his senses. His eyes got red and he said to Lakshman - "Don't you remember my might of my previous fight, when I tied you along with your brother and you were hurt? I understand that either you have forgotten that fight, or you want to go to Yam Lok, because you wish to defeat a warrior like me."

After saying this he shot seven arrows at Lakshman and 10 arrows at Hanumaan. Lakshman said - "Is that all? This is nothing." and He shot arrows at Meghnaad, then said - "Your arrows were very light and weak. Mighty warriors do not shoot with such arrows." And Lakshman started showering arrows on Meghnaad. This attack broke Meghnaad's armor and thus wounded him. Then Meghnaad shot 1,000 arrows at Lakshman. This time Lakshman's armor was broken. Both were bleeding, both were tired, both had been fighting for quite some time, but neither moved from his place. Both were not tired to kill one another. When quite some time passed for their fighting, then Vibheeshan went near Lakshman for his moral boosting.
