Sarg 17-Raam Goes to Dasharath

Raam rode on His chariot and the chariot started on royal roads. All roads were full of silk and linen cloth - heaps of them, unpierced pearls, excellent things made of crystal, various kinds of flowers, and eatables. Hearing the blessings of people and acknowledging them accordingly Raam was proceeding on the royal route. Nobody could turn his eyes back even when He was very far. Everybody blamed the one who did not see Raam. Whoever did not see Raam, he was embarrassed and sad. Raam went by crossing road junctions, Dev paths, sacred trees etc.

Thus Raam arrived at father's palace gate. The palace looked like Swarg and had all kinds of comforts and pleasures. Raam crossed its three parts in chariot and its two parts on foot. Then He came to his father.

Sarg 18-Kaikeyee Tells Raam About Her Var

Raam saw His father sitting on a beautiful seat but with a miserable face and Kaikeyee sitting beside him. He greeted first His father's feet, then Kaikeyee's feet. When Dasharath saw his son, he broke into tears and wept bitterly. He couldn't say anything except "Raam". Raam has never seen His father like this before so He got scared as if He has stepped up on a snake.

Dasharath was so sad that he was taking long breaths and repenting on Kaikeyee's words. He was looking without luster as a sage has spoken any untruth, or the Sun has been eclipsed. [As He couldn't look at Raam. He was sitting lowering his eyes.] Raam couldn't understand the cause of his sadness. He got worried. He was more worried because Raajaa did not return His greetings. He was not behaving like he always did, because whenever He went to him he used to be happy to see Him in spite of being sad or worried or angry. But what has happened to him today that he was getting sad seeing Him.

Raam said to Kaikeyee - "Maa, I hope that I have not done anything wrong even by mistake, then why father is angry with me? Why he is not talking to me? Tell me the reason and do something so that my father gets happy with me. Is my father physically sick or mentally worried, because nobody can always be happy. I hope that nothing bad has happened to Bharat and Shatrughn? If our father becomes angry, I don't want to live even for a moment without pleasing him. Man sees his father as living Bhagvaan who has brought the son in this world. I hope you have not spoken anything to father with pride or anger. Kindly tell me the truth."

Kaikeyee said - "Raajaa is neither angry, nor distressed. But there is one thing which he is not telling from fear. He is scared to tell you, because you are dear to him and he always wishes your welfare. He has promised me something which only you can fulfill. Long ago, Raajaa gave me a Var and like a common man is now repenting for it. Truth is the root of righteousness, see that offended Raajaa does not abandon the truth because of you. The king is about to tell you that auspicious or inauspicious truth. Still I tell you that if you do it afterwards. This king will not tell you.

Raam said - "Maa, these types of words don't seem to be nice from your mouth. If father orders me, I can jump in the fire, I can give my life taking poison, I can jump into the sea, but you just tell me everything as what does he want me to do for him. I vow that I will do all whatever he wants me to do. Raam doesn't speak two things."

The cruel queen said to Raam who was committed to sincerity and speaking the truth - "Long ago, during a war between Devtaa and Asur, I saved life of your father who was wounded by arrows. He asked me toask for two Var. According to those Var - in one Var I ask the throne for my son Bharat, and in the second Var I ask exile for you to Dandak Van today itself. Therefore if you want him to be truthful, then to fulfill your father's vow you go to exile for 14 years. You make Jataa (matted hair), wear Saadhu's attire and go to forest. Bharat will have the throne and rule this Prithvi. You obey your father's order, that is your grace. That is why Raajaa is not looking at you."

Although Kaikeyee was speaking such harsh words but Raam was unaffected with sorrow but Raajaa Dasharath was very much perturbed with this calamity occurred to his son.
