Sarg 73-Bharat Abuses Kaikeyee

Hearing all this story, Bharat said - "Today I don't have my father, I don't have my brother, therefore now I do not wish to live. What I will do of this kingdom? Whatever you did, did good for me, that you helped increasing my sorrow. You took life of my father, and exiled my father-like brother. You destroyed all happiness of our family. But just tell me, what was your purpose to take his life? By sending Raam to forest, you have already committed a great sin towards Kaushalyaa and Sumitraa.

Maa Kaushalyaa has always treated you like her younger sister. Raam used to love us very much because He knew how to behave with everybody, but O sinner, you sent such a gentleman to forest in Tapaswee guise? What did you get out of this sordid action? Didn't you know that how much I loved Raam? You did very bad in greed of kingdom. How can I rule the kingdom without the power of Raam and Lakshman. Even Raajaa Dasharath used to consult Him.

O selfish, I will not let you fulfill your wishes like this. I could have surely left you but I cannot do that because Raam treats you like His own mother. The tradition of His Vansh is that the eldest brother rules the kingdom. But where did you get this wisdom [that I will rule this kingdom]? I will bring my brother back to displease you." Thus Bharat said many harsh words to Kaikeyee and he himself cried bitterly.

Sarg 74-Bharat Further Abuses Kaikeyee

Bharat said to his mother - "Don't you weep for the dead because your character is not good, and you have not followed Dharm. What troubles Raam gave to you? What bad Dasharath did to you? So you exiled one and killed the other. You have earned the sin of fetus-killing, you have defamed me too. Therefore Hey Maa, You are my enemy. I do not want to talk to you because your behavior is not righteous.

Because of you, Maa Kaushalyaa and Sumitraa will be sad. You are the destroyer of the family. You are not the daughter of pious king Ashwapati. O Raakshasee, You are not even born of your father, because you have sent pious Raam to forest and killed my father. You alone will bear the results of these sins.

You could not understand Raam's Swaroop. You treated Him like a human being. Once upon a time, Kaamdhenu saw her two sons who were worshipped by Devtaa. Then she saw that her both sons fainted while tilling a farm. Seeing this Kaamdhenu cried. At the same time Dev Raaj Indra was passing through. Two drops of tears of Kaamdhenu fell on his body. Indra looked at sky. He found Kaamdhenu crying. He asked her - "Maa, Is there any fear of enemy for us? O our well wisher, Why are you crying?"

Kaamdhenu said - "I am sad because farmers are beating my sons. They are working under hard sun, they are weak and are tolerating the loads. I have given them birth and they are hurt. Hey Dev Raaj, There is no other greater sorrow than Putra Shok (sorrow of son). Kaamdhenu has given birth to thousands of sons and sent them to Prithvi, they are in pain."

At that time Indra knew that there is no other greater sorrow than Putra Shok. There were only two drops of tears which were scented, that is why Indra thought of her Surabhi. Kaamdhenu treats everybody alike. She always fulfills human beings' wishes. She is also affected by Shok (sorrow) and Moh (intense love). The same Kaamdhenu who has thousands of sons, she was also sad for her two sons, then think, Kaushalyaa has only one son, how will she stay alive without Raam? You have tormented a mother of one son, you will have to bear the consequences in this world and in another world as well.

I will appoint my brother Raam as Raajaa and serve Him and perform the Pind Daan rites of my father, so that I can wash away my black spot. I will call Raam to Ayodhyaa and I myself will go to forest. O sinner, Whatever sin you have committed, I cannot tolerate it. You sent Raam to forest and asked the kingship for me, I will never let it happen. I cannot tolerate public's sorrow and cry, therefore either you enter Agni, or go to forest, or die by tying the rope around your neck. There is no other way for you." saying this Bharat fell on the ground.

Sarg 75-Bharat Convinces Kaushalyaa

When Bharat gained consciousness, he said to ministers - "I never even dreamed of kingdom, nor I have said anything about it to my mother. I didn't even know about Raam's Raajya Abhishek (crowning ceremony), because I was at my Naanaa's place with Shatrughn. I don't even know that how this situation arose."

Kaushalyaa heard Bharat, so she said to Sumitraa - "It seems that Bharat has come. He can foresee things. I want to see him." So she got up and went to see him. Now Bharat and Shatrughn were also coming to see Kaushalyaa on the same way. So she met them on the way and seeing them fell on the ground, and got fainted. When she woke up, she said to Bharat - "Now you should be happy to get this kingdom without any hurdles, because your mother has kept it safe for you and she has exiled my son. Let Kaikeyee send me too where my dear son is doing Tapasyaa, or I will go myself with Sumitraa on the same path. Kaikeyee has given this wealthy kingdom to you from Dasharath." Thus Kaushalyaa insulted Bharat with harsh words.

Hearing this Bharat got extremely sad as if somebody had pricked his wounds. He fell on the feet of Maa Kaushalyaa. When he had gathered himself, he said to her - "Hey Maa, Why are you insulting an ignorant? You know yourself that how much I love Raam, and with whose consultation Raam has been sent to forest. Maa, she may do anything she wants. With whoever's consultation Raam has been sent to forest, she should bear the results of those sinners, like that master who takes the work from his servant and snatch his money instead of paying him; or like that who takes the Sankalp (vow) to give Dakshinaa to Braahman for Yagya but doesn't give it; or she should never see Raam."

Bharat vowed and tried to convince Kaushalyaa that he didn't know anything about all this. Kaushalyaa said - "I have got my life back after knowing the truth. I am happy that greed did not move your Dharm. Hey Bharat, If your vows are true, then you should get the great people's Lok." After this she made him sit in her lap and wept. Bharat also wept.
