Because Bharat Jee loved Shatrughn very much, he took him along to his Maamaa's house. They stayed there for some time. Although his Maamaa took care of them a lot, but whenever Bharat remembered his father, he wanted to go home. Raajaa Dasharath also remembered them very much who were like Varun and Indra to him. Raam was always busy in doing good to others. He was soft-spoken, good-natured, and very well-behaved. To protect grieved people, and to comfort them was His prime Dharm. He is a good archer. He took care of kingdom also very intelligently.

Seeing all this Dasharath thought when he would see Him crowned as king. He thought, "Because I have got old, if I declare Him the Crown Prince now then I can also see Him ruling the kingdom. Although He has all the qualities, He protects people like Indra, He is intelligent like Brihaspati, He is patient like Parvat and He is qualitative more than me. He was so virtuous. I wish to see Him ruling the kingdom with my own eyes."

So Raajaa Dasharath called his ministers and with their consultation decided to declare Raam as the king. Raajaa sent invitations to many kings and made arrangements for their boarding and lodging, but somehow he did not send the invitation to Raajaa Janak and Bharat's Maamaa and thought that he will inform them after the ceremony is over. All Raajaa were sitting around Dasharath in the royal court according to rules. Dasharath was sitting in the court as Indra sits in Indra's court.

Sarg 2-Preparation For Coronation

When the Mandap (canopy) was full of kings and other people, Raajaa Dasharath said - "Our ancestors have taken care of this kingdom like their children. I also wish that this kingdom should always be happy and prosperous. I have ruled this kingdom to comfort my people with my pure heart. Now I have become old I want to take rest, I wish to appoint my son in my place. I need your permission for this.

My eldest son Raam is like me. I wish to declare Him the Crown Prince. If Raam will become the king then this will be best for all the three worlds. Please think it over and tell me if you agree with me or not. You may take time." But all accepted this proposal and expressed their happiness with Raajaa's happiness with loud noises. They said - "You are an old person of thousands of years of age, hence you may appoint Raam as the Crown Prince.

Dasharath Jee again said - "Have you accepted this because I told you to do so, or you yourself accept Raam as your king? And when I am doing my duties all right then why to appoint Raam as your king? Tell me this."

Kings said - "Your son Raam is very qualitative. We cannot describe His all the qualities, but still we say some, listen. Among all the kings of Ikshwaaku Vansh, Raam is the best - truthful, intelligent, soft-spoken, brave and bears good character. Raam is soft-natured, has stable mind, makes other people happy. If the king has to go for battle to protect his kingdom, Raam will go with Lakshman and will return only after victory. He is like Vishnu in valor. Raam is born to you because of your good fortune. Even Devtaa, Gandharv, Naag, human beings, everybody wish Him long life and good health; so declare Him as the king for our good."

Sarg 3-Dasharath Announces This to Raam 

Raajaa Dasharath got very happy to hear all people's opinion about Raam. He again said - "This is Chaitra Maas (March-April). We will perform the ceremony this month only, so collect all necessary things for the ceremony."Then Raajaa said to Guru Vashishth Jee - "Please tell what you need for the ceremony." Vashishth Jee asked the servants to collect all materials by next day morning at king's Agnishaalaa (fire house). He asked for gold and the like, diamonds, materials for worship, various herbs, floral garlands, corn, honey, Ghee (clarified butter), new clothes, chariot, all weapons, elephant, white Chhatra (umbrella), staff etc.

Good sweet smelling rice with milk and yogurt should be arranged for 100,000 Braahman and it should be given with corn, Ghee, milk and yogurt, and lots of gifts to all Braahman tomorrow at dawn. Flags be hung, water should be sprinkled on royal grounds, all royal dancers and musicians should also be present, all warriors should be dressed well with their proper weapons and should be present there.

First Dev worship should be performed, then food and sweets should be distributed to Braahman and they would be satisfied with Dakshinaa.

After instructing thus, Vashishth Jee and Vaam Dev Jee started their work. After finishing their work they asked Raajaa Dasharath to call Raam for the ceremony as everything was ready. Dasharath sent Sumantra to bring Him there. Sumantra brought Him in a beautiful chariot. Dasharath looked at coming Raam for long and as he looked at Him, his desire to look at Him increased.

Raam arrived and greeted his father. Raajaa embraced Him and offered Him a gem-studded Aasan (throne) to sit upon and said - "You are my eldest son of my eldest queen and are full of good qualities, therefore you are very loving to me. When Moon is in Pushya Nakshatra, then you will be the king, because the public has also approved you for this status.

Now you listen to me, I tell you something very useful for you. Keep your Indriyaan under your control. Do not be even close to any bad habit and do justice with all public with proofs; and always comfort public and army. Keep collecting gold and gems and rule keeping your employees satisfied."

Friends of Raam told this news to queen Kaushalyaa. The queen gave them gems to hear that news. Raam also went to His palace and got happy to hear the opinion of public about Himself. All people went home.
