42-Raamaayan and Mahaabhaarat Dates

There is a short book written by Lokmanya bal Gangadhar Tilak. he has asked two questions --
1. Did Raamaayan and Mahaabhaarat exist?
2. What was the period.
He says in that book that the star position at the time of MBH is written and any one can make all the stars and planets go backwards (with their respective rotational speeds) and find out when that position existed and did such a position exist.
Without computers at that time Tilak calculated (he himself was a great astrologer and a mathematician) and said "Yes, such a position existed and the time period was solme 4,000 years ago. (I don't remember exact dates but if anyone has that book (it was a small book and written from Mandale jail) he can help us with exact answer.
------------
There is a wonderful book titled "The-Orion-The- Antiquity- of-the-Vedas" by Lokamanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak which deals with the subject discussed. There is also another work by the same author named "The Arctic Home in the Vedas" which is worth reading.
------------
If one can go to Pune he can go to Narayan Peth, where the old house of Lokmanya Tilak is still there. They have all the old works of Tilak. Years ago I went there to collect a copy of Tilak's paper on the missing verse of Sankhya karika. Dr Radhakrishnan calls Tilak's that work on Sankhyakarika to be his greatest contribution to Indian philosophy.
