Vaishampaayan Jee said - "So Devtaa started incarnating on Prithvi and killing Daitya born in every form. The incarnated Devtaa were so powerful that the Daanav could not kill those celestials even if they were in their infancy stage." Janamejaya said - "I wish to hear the account of their birth, so please tell me about that." Vaishampaayan Jee said - "Yes, I will tell you everything. It is known that Brahmaa had six spiritual sons - Mareechi, Atri, Angiraa, Pulastya, Pulah, and Kratu. Mareechi's son is Kashyap and all these children are of Kashyap. Daksh, one of the Prajaapati, had 13 daughters - Aditi, Diti, Danu, Kalaa, Danaayu, Sinhikaa, Krodhaa, Pradhaa, Vishwaa, Vinataa, Kapilaa, Muni and Kadroo. The sons and grandsons of these women are countless. --From Aditi
were born 12 Aaditya. Their names are - Dhaataa, Mitra, Aryamaa (Aaryaman),
Sakra (Indra), Varun, Ansh, Vag, Vivaswat, Pooshaa, Savitaa, Twashtaa, and
Vishnu. The youngest one is superior to all of them in merit. Shukra was the chief priest of Asur. Shukra had four sons who were also the priests of Asur - Tashtaadhar, Atri and two others. These are well known, but they had thousands and thousands who are not so known. --Vinataa's
sons were - Taarkshya, Arishtnemi, Garud and Arun, Aaruni and Vaaruni. Thus I described you the birth of all creatures." 11 Rudra, 8 Vasu, 12 Aaditya etc Vaishampaayan Jee said - "It is known that Brahmaa had six Maanas Putra. There was an other one named Sthaanu. He had 11 sons. They were (1) Mrigvyaadh, (2) Sarp, (3) Nirriti, (4) Ajaikpaad, (5) Ahirbudhnya, (6) Pinaakee, (7) Dahan, (8) Eeshwar, (9) Kapaalee, (10) Sthaanu, and (11) Bharg. They are called 11 Rudra. From among
the six sons of Brahmaa Jee (Mareechi, Angiraa, Atri, Pulastya, Pulah, Kratu), Daksh was born from the right toe of Brahmaa and his wife appeared from from Brahmaa's left toe. Both had 50 daughters. His all the daughters were very beautiful. Since he had no son, he made them Putrikaa [so that their sons can belong to both to him as well as to their father]. He bestowed his
10 daughters to Dharm - Keerti, Lakshmee Dhrit, Medhaa, Pushti, Shraddhaa, Kriyaa, Buddhi, Lajjaa, Mati; Brahmaa had another son named Manu whose son's name was Prajaapati. Prajaapati had 8 sons. They are called Vasu. (1) Dhoomra had two sons - Dhaaraa and Dhruv; (2) Shwaas had two sons Chandramaa and Shwaasan - Anil; (3) Rat had one son Ahaa; (4) Shaandilya had one son Hutaashan - Anal; (5) Prabhaat had two sons Pratyoosh and Prabhaas. Dhaaraa had two sons - Draavid and Hutaa-havyaa-vaha. Dhruv's son is Kaal (Time). Som's son is Varchaa. Varchaa has three sons from his wife Manoharaa - Shishir, Praan and Raman. Ahaa has four sons - Jyoti, Shram, Shaant, and Muni. Anal (Agni) has one son born in the forest of reeds - Kumaar. He is known as Kaartikeya because he was brought up by Krittikaa. After the birth of Kaartikeya, three more sons wre born to Anal - Shaakh, Vishaakh, and Naigmesh. Anil (Vaayu) had two sons from his wife Shivaa - Manojava and Avigyaat. Pratyoosh's son is Rishi Deval. Deval has two sons. Brihaspati's sister roamed all around the earth and then became Prabhaas' (the 8th Vasu) wife and gave birth to Vishwakarmaa. He was the originator of thousands of arts, engineer of the immortals, the maker of all ornaments, and the first of artists. Dharm appeared from Brahmaa's right breast. He has three sons - Sham, Kaam and Harsh (peace, pleasure and joy). Kaam's wife is Rati; Sham's wife is Praapti; and Harsh's wife is Nandaa. Mareechi had a son named Kashyap. Kashyap's children are Devtaa and Asur, that is why he is the father of the world. Twashtri became the wife of Saavitree assuming the form of Vadavaa (mare), and she gave birth to a twins named Ashwinee Kumaar. Aditi has 12 sons, of whom Indra is the head, and the youngest of whom is Vishnu upon whom depends the whole world. Thus these are 33 Devtaa - 11 Rudra, 8 Vasu, 12 Aaditya, Prajaapati, and Vashatkar. I will now tell you about their children according to their Paksh, Kul and Gan. The Rudra, the Saadhya, the Marut, the Vasu, the Bhaargav (Bhrigu's children), and the Vishwedev, are each regarded as a "Paksh". Garud and Arun and Brihaspati are regarded as Aaditya. Ashwinee Kumaar, all annual plants, all inferior animals, are called Guhyak. These are the Gan of Devtaa which were described here. Bhrigu's Vansh Bhrigu came out ripping right breast of Brahmaa Jee. Bhrigu's son is Shukra who became a planet and became the maker of rains and the cause of bestowing good things to the three Lok. He led the life of a Brahmchaaree and divided himself into two and became the spiritual guide of both Devtaa and Asur. After Shukra, Bhrigu had another virtuous son Chyavan. He came out of his mother's womb in anger and freed his mother from Raakshas grip. He married Manu's daughter Aarushee and had a son named Aurv. Aurv came out ripping out the thigh of Aarushee. Aurv had the son named Richeek. Richeek was very virtuous even from his childhood. His son was Jamadagni and Jamadagni had four sons, among whom the youngest one was Parashuraam, but he was the most superior among all his brothers. Aurv had 100 sons, Jamadagni was being the eldest. [Logic is bad here] And the children of these 100 sons spread throughout the world. Brahmaa had two other sons - Dhaataa and Vidhaataa. Their sister is Lakshmee who lives in lotuses. Lakshmee's children are flying horses. Shukra's daughter Devee got married to Varun and became his eldest wife. They have one son Bal and one daughter Suraa (wine). A-Dharm was born when creatures began to kill each other for want of food. A-Dharm's wife was Nirriti. The Raakshas born from her were called Nairit. She has three more sons who are very cruel and sinful - Bhaya (fear), Mahaabhaya (terror), and Mrityu (death) who ia always engaged in slaying created things. Because he is always destroying things, he has no wife or son. --Taamraa
gave birth to five daughters - Kaakee (crow), Shyenee (hawk), Phaasee (hen),
Dhritraashtree (goose), and Shukee (parrot). Thus Kaakee gave birth to crows;
Shyenee gave birth to the hawks, cocks and vultures; Dhritraashtree gave birth
to all swans and ducks; and Shukee gave birth to all parrots.
----Rohinee gave birth to all cows and Gandharvee gave birth to all kinds of horses. This is the genealogy of all creatures described by me.
