Sarg 71-Bharat in Ayodhyaa

Bharat came to east, crossed Sudaamaa River, came to Hlaadinee River, crossed Shatadra River and Eldhaan River and came to Apar Parvat states. Then they crossed Shilaa River and came to Chitrarath forest through Agneya Shaalaa Karshan Graam, then came o Saraswatee-Gangaa Sangam (meeting point), and then to north of Veer Matsya Desh, entered Maarund Van. Then crossed Kulingaa and Yamunaa Rivers and told the army to take some rest. They took food there and started their journey again.

Crossed the wild Mahaaranya Van and came to Pragvat city, crossed Gangaa River and came to Ujhiyaanaa city garden through Dharm Vardhan Toran, Kaambooprasth, Varuth Graam. Then Bharat rode on a horse and instructed his army to come slowly. He took rest in Teerth city and started again in the morning. Crossed many rivers, entered the forest of Kaling city. Came to Ayodhyaa in the night in spite of tired horses.

He saw at Ayodhyaa and said - "Its floors look white, don't people polish them? Many Braahman live here, it is very rich, but I don't hear Ved Paath. Before Tumul (a musical instrument) sound could be heard from very far, but today it is not there at all. Nor the sounds of people are coming. All gardens are empty, nobody is seen on roads also. Before we used to hear sounds of many musical instruments. but today nobody is playing any. My left eye is twitching, which shows that our family is not well. There is some inauspicious event has occurred.

They entered through Vaijayant Gate, so gatekeepers got up and welcomed them. They wanted to follow Bharat, but Bharat stopped them. Bharat said to Kaikaya Raaj's Saarathee (charioteer) - "Calling me soon through messengers and not telling me the reason of calling is creating doubts in my mind. I am trying to analyzing my dream, and it seems to be true. People have not cleaned their houses, there is no smell of incense sticks, which means that the sacrifice has not been offered to Devtaa. I don't see Vaishya community also." Noticing all this, he entered the palace. He found the crossings and roads empty. He lowered his head seeing all this.

Sarg 72-Kaikeyee Tells the Whole Story

Bharat didn't see his father in his father's palace, so he went to his mother Kaikeyee's palace. Seeing Bharat coming, Kaikeyee got up immediately from her gold Aasan and hugged her son. Seeing Maa in widow guise, Bharat got surprised. Kaikeyee asked him affectionately - "How many nights did you spend from your Maamaa's house to here? Don't you feel tired? Are your Naanaa and Maamaa all right there? Did you have any problem in your Naanaa's house? Tell me everything."

Bharat said - "Today is the 7th night since I started from Naanaa's Graam. Naanaa and Maamaa are all right. They gave me lots of wealth and gems at the time of my coming from there. I have left all that back on my way and because my horses were tired, so I came early. Now answer me what I ask you. The gold bed on which Raajaa used to sleep, why is it empty today? Where is Raajaa? Raajaa's employees don't seem to be happy. Raajaa Dasharath used to live in your palace but he is not here today and I wish to see him only. Tell me where is he? I want to touch his feet. Is he not at Maa Kaushalyaa's house?"

Kaikeyee said - "Whatever happens to all beings, the same has happened to your father also. And whatever Gati a pious religious person gets, he has got the same Gati." As Bharat heard this from Kaikeyee's mouth, he fell on the ground saying - "Hey Dev, I am dead." And cried for his father. He lost his mind and got unconscious. When he gained consciousness, he said - "This bed looked good when Raajaa used to sit and lie on it, but today it is empty." Bharat covered his face with a cloth and cried again.

Seeing Bharat in this condition, Kaikeyee consoled him - "Intelligent people do not cry like this." But Bharat still lay on ground and said - "I came here so soon that Raajaa will do the Raaj Tilak with his own hands but Vidhaataa wished something else. And the father, who always thought good about me is no more now. Hey Maa, tell me what disease took him away. Aah, Raam etc are blessed because they performed his last rites. It seems that they do not know that I am in Ayodhyaa. If they knew, then they would have called me immediately, hugged me and cleaned my dust from the journey.

If my father is not here then at least tell me where is my father-like brother Raam? I will touch His feet. What my father said to Him about me at the time of dying, I want to hear that?" Hearing this from Bharat, Kaikeyee told him everything plainly. She said - "Hey Bharat, Raajaa Dasharath died saying - "Haa Raam, Haa Lakshman, Haa Seetey." and then under the control of Kaal Raajaa said - "Whoever will see Raam with Lakshman and Seetaa only they are blessed."

Bharat got very sad hearing this from Kaikeyee. He asked - "But at that time where were they?" Now Kaikeyee had to open herself more, first she thought that Bharat will be happy to hear all this, but he didn't - "Bharat, Raam went to forest with Lakshman and Seetaa in Tapaswee guise." Hearing this Bharat trembled, he asked - "Did Raam snatch any Braahman's wealth? Or punish any innocent? Tell me for what reason my brother was exiled?"

Kaikeyee said - "Raam neither snatched anybody's wealth, nor punished any innocent. He even couldn't see any other woman with His eyes, but when Raam's Tilak was to be performed, then I reminded Raajaa to give my two Var - throne to you and exile to Raam. And remembering his own promise to me, he granted my Var. That is why he sent Raam to forest with Lakshman and Seetaa and he himself died. Hey Bharat, now you take care of this kingdom. The whole kingdom of Ayodhyaa is now yours. You perform Raajaa's last rites then take over the throne."
