2-Bhaarat Varsh |
2-Bhaarat Varsh A discussion held with Hari Malla in Om Namah Shivaya Group, Jun 2, 2011 Skand Puraan has a Himvat Khand. In my view Himavat Khand means the 'lunar part'. The lunar month is the Himaalayan peak in the allegorical sense. Suppose there are 33 lunar months from one Adhik Maas to another Adhik Maas, then it becomes like 33 Himaalayan peaks during that period. 'Bhaarat Varsh' is one year period with only 12 Himaalyan peaks. The three years period is called 'Mahaa Bhaarat or the big year. This same is also true with the Himaalayan mountain, whose wings were cut by Vishnu with His Sudarshan Chakra, so that he did not wander here and there. The meaning of this 'cutting the wing' is limiting the lunar months within one Adhik Maas to another, so that the Tithi remain in the appropriate season. Because the Muslims do not use Adhik Maas to limit the lunar months their Hajj to Mecca varies from summer to winter round the year in about 30 years. "Himvat" or Himvant, or Himvan, Himvana, Himvaan - all word are used to denote not the "Lunar part" but the Himaalaya Mountain. These words have been interchangeably used to denote Himaalaya Parvat, in many Puraan and Tulasee's Maanas too. Besides, in "Bhaarat Varsh", Varsh does not mean "the year" but "a piece of land", thus Bharat Varsh means "a piece of land whose name is Bhaarat". There can be several meaning of the words used in our scriptures. Perhaps the meaning you have given, could also carry weight, but my meaning also surely does. By Bhaarat means he who does nourishment or 'Bharan Poshan'. The King whose kingdom is Bhaarat Varsh. This king is none other than the Sun in the sky, who rules over the earth in its orbit of 'one year'. This one year is divided into 12 full lunar months and one incomplete month (the 13th one) shown as the triangle and the 14th one is the center of this Lunar orbit which is Raam Himself. Thus Ram is said to go to exile for 14 years each year representing one month in the year. Chandra means the Moon. The center of the Lunar month is God or Raam. Thus we have the story of Raamaayan with 14 years of exile king giving the kingdom to Bharat or the Sun. The Sun is in our body, that is our heart. So it means giving the kingdom to our heart or Bhakti. Raam is the doer of duty, being the son of Kaushalyaa which is our 'skill'.
