11-Kaashee
6-Naarad Puraan, 2-Uttar Bhaag, p 669-678

Uttar Bhaag of Naarad Puraan (p 577-750, about 175 pages) contains many stories - Rukmaangad, Indradyumn, Raam, Parashuraam, Krishn, glory of Gayaa and Gangaa, importance of Teerth

Free Region - Kaashee

Vasu Jee further said - "Now you listen to about Kaashee Puree. Blessed are Kaashee and Maheshwar who has got it from Hari and lives there. It is called Vaishnav or Shaiv Kshetra (region). Kaashee is spread from east to west up to 2 and a 1/2 Yojan (22 mile), and from north to south, from Asee to Varanaa, it is 1/2 Yojan. Asee is a dry river. There is a Shiv Ling named Timichandeshwar, one should take Uttaraayan point from there, and Shankukarn is towards Dakshinaayan point. Vishnu and Shiv had never abandoned this place that is why it is known as "A-Vimukt" Ksetra. It is higher Teerth than Prayaag. There is Kapaalmochan, if somebody does Shraaddh there, his Pitar goes to very high Lok.

Who eats once a day and lives in Kaashee for one month, he destroys all his Paap in one month only. Who lives there as Brahmchaaree and never leaves it, he is Shankar in person. Who die there they get Rudra's body and get Shiv's Saayujya. When a man dies in Kaashee, Bhagavan Shiv says Mantra in his ears. Raam has said to Shiv - "In whoever dying man's right ear you will say my Mantra, he will be free from the world."

In Kaashee, Manikarnikaa is supposed to be the highest. Who takes bath in Manikarnikaa he gets the fruit of 10 Ashwamedh Yagya. Shiv is supposed to live there. Who does any kind of Dharm to please Shiv its fruit is limitless. Who keeps fast there even for one day, he gets fruits of doing fast for 100 years. The Sangam of Gangaa and Varanaa gives Mukti. On Wednesday, when there is Shravan Nakshatra and Dwaadashee Tithi, one must take bath. At the place where Gangaa meets Asee and Varanaa, if somebody donates horse he does not take birth again.

On north-west side of Sangameshwar, there is Chaturmukh (4-mouthed) Shiv Ling. To its north-west side there is Bhadradeh pond which is filled with cow's milk. It destroys all sins. When Poornimaa is with Poorv Bhaadrapadaa Nakshatra, it is considered a great Punya time. East to Antakeshwar, south to Sarveshwar and north to Maataleeshwar, there is a Krittivaasar named Shiv Ling. By its Darshan and worship, a person gets Param Gati in one life only. In Sat Yug it was called as Tryambakeshwar, in Tretaa Yug it was called as Krittivaaseshwar, in Dwaapar Yug it was called Maheshwar and now in Kali Yug it is called as Hastipaaleshwar. If somebody desires to obtain Taarak Moksh Gyaan then one should do its Darshan repeatedly.

Who worships Krittivaaseshwar Mahaadev on Phaalgun Krishn Chaturdashee with Stotra, Mantra etc and keep fast for one night, he gets Parampad. Who worships him on Chaitra Chaturdashee, he goes to Kuber. Who worships him on Vaishaakh Chaturdashee,he goes to Kaartikeya's Lok and becomes his servant. Who worships him on Jyeshth Chaturdashee, he lives in Swarg Lok till one Kalp. Who worships him on Aashaadh Chaturdashee, he goes to Soorya Lok. Who worships him there as Kaameshwar, he goes to Varun Lok. Who worships him on Bhaadrapad Chaturdashee, he lives with Indra. Who worships him in Aashwin Krishn Chaturdashee he goes to Pitar Lok. Who worships him on Kaartik Chaturdashee he lives in Chandra Lok till he desires. Who worships him on Maargsheersh Krishn Chaturdashee, he goes to Vishnu Lok. Who worships him on Paush Krishn Chaturdashee, he goes to Nairritya Lok and enjoys with Nirriti. Who worships him on Maagh Chaturdashee, he abandons this world and goes to Shiv Lok. Therefore if one desires to go to Shiv Dhaam, he should live in Kaashee and worship Krittivaaseshwar.

There is a Ghantaakarn named pond behind Vyaaseshwar, if somebody dies at any place after taking bath in that pond and doing Darshan of Vyaaseshwar, he is considered died in Kaashee only. Whatever fruit one gets after circumambulating Prithvi, one can get after doing Darshan of Lalitaa Devee, he doesn't have to take birth again. Keeping fast on every month's Chauth (4th), one should worship Lalitaa Devee and wake the whole night. By doing thus one can get all kinds of Siddhi. South to her is Manikarnee named Shiv Ling. In front of it is a big pond which destroys all Paap. Bhagavaan Manikarneeshwar lives in that pond. By worshipping him one never comes back in this world.

In earlier times, Raakshas were going very fast through skyway carrying Shiv's auspicious Ling. When that Ling was over Kaashee, Mahaadev thought "what to do so that I don't leave my place", at the same time he heard cock's sound. Raakshas got afraid of it, they left the ling at the same place and ran away from there. The Ling established itself in a beautiful place. Devtaa named that Shiv Ling as A-Vimukt. Whoever dies there he attains Moksh. To its south there a small pond, by drinking its water one doesn't come in this world again. He gets Taarak Gyaan also. One should take bath in all rivers, ponds etc as all are Siddh Peeth.

Now when to go to Kaashe? Devtaa have decided this time. In earlier time, Devtaa lived in Kaashee at Kaam Kund in Chaitra Maas; Siddh lived to Rudraavaas in Jyeshth Maas; Gandharv lived at Priyaa Devee Kund in Aashaadh Maas; Vidyaadhar went to Lakshmee Kund in Shraavan Maas; Yaksh lived at Maarkandeya Kund in Aashwin Maas; Naag lived at Koti Teerth in Maargsheersh Maas; Guhyak lived at Kapaalmochan Teerth in Paush Maas; Pishaach lived at Kaaleshwar Kund in Phaalgun Maas (they did this on Phaalgun Chaturdashee that is why it is called Pishaach Chaturdashee also).

Now I tell you about those Vinaayak who create obstacles in living in Kaashee. By worshipping them one can live there without any obstacle. One should do Darshan first of Dhundhi Vinaayak, then Kil Vinaayak, then Devee Vinaayak, then Gopreksh Vinaayak, Hastihastee Vinaayak, then Sindoorya Vinaayak on every Chauth and to please them feed sweets to Braahman.

Kaashee is protected by Durgaa in south, Antareshwaree in south-west, Angaareshwaree in west, Bhadrakaalee in north-west, Bheemchandaa in north, Mahaamattaa in north-east, Shaankaree Devee along with Oordhwakeshee in east, Adhahkeshee in south-east, and Chitraghantaa in the center. Who does Darshan of the Devee, they all protect him. They create obstacles for sinners that is why one should always worship Vinaayak and these Devee.

Here lived a Daitya named Kantakroop in the form of lion. Shankar killed him and became famous as Vyaaghreshwar. After doing his Darshan one does never get bad gati. There is another Shiv Ling named Shaileshwar established by Himvaan. There were two Daitya Utpal and Vidal, both were killed killed by Paarvatee Jee. One was killed by Shaarng bow and another by a spear. Two Shiv Ling were established on the names of these two weapons. Who does Darshan of both Ling, he never becomes sorrowful.

A Shiv Ling has been established by Brahmaa Jee at Gangaa's meeting place to sea. It is famous as Sangameshwar. After taking bath in Sangam places who worships Sangameshwar, he is free from the fear of rebirth. Bhrigu's son also established a Shiv Ling here named as Shukreshwar. After doing Darshan one becomes free from all sins. Mahaadev Jee killed one Daitya named Jambuk here, after doing Darshan related to him one's all wishes are fulfilled.

Glory of Gangaa

Whatever Karm is done here, its fruit becomes immortal. No sinner goes to Hell after coming here. In the same way any sin committed here becomes like Vajra. Who does Darshan of Vishwanaath Jee after taking bath on Dashaashwamedh Ghaat, he soon becomes free from sins and does not come back to this world. Where Gangaa flows northward, if one takes bath in it in the months of Kaartik and Maagh, he becomes free from sins.

There are five rivers in Kaashee - Kiranaa, Dhootpaapaa, Saraswatee, Gangaa and Yamunaa. Because of these five rivers Panchnad or Panchgangaa Teerth has appeared here. Who takes bath in it he never takes physical body again. Whatever Punya is earned in one month of Maagh Snaan in Prayaag, the same Punya can be got by taking bath in Panchnad Teerth in one day only. Even a barren woman gives birth to a son if she worships Mangalaa Gauree after taking bath in Panchnad Teerth for one year. Whatever is donated here does not destroy until the end of the Kalp. Panchgangaa's even one drop water is better than the Panchaamrit of 108 pitchers. In Sat Yug it was known as Dharmnad, in Tretaa Yug it was known as Dhootpaapaa, in Dwaapar Yug it was known as Vindu Teerth and in Kali Yug it is known as Panchnad Teerth.

A sinner also becomes sinless after hearing its importance, a Braahman becomes learned in Ved, a Kshatriya gets victory, and a Vaishya becomes rich.
