Raam Avataar for Raavan             Contd... on Next Page

Mahaadev Jee said - "Hey Paarvatee, In earlier times, Swaayambhuv Manu did Jap of 12-letter Mantra in Naimish Aranya Teerth on the banks of Narmadaa River. Bhagavaan appeared before him and asked him to ask for a Var. Manu said - "Deveshwar, You be my son in three lives. I wish to worship you with the feeling of a son." Purushottam said - "Your wish will be surely fulfilled. I will also be very happy to be your son. To protect good people, to destroy wicked people and to establish Dharm, I take Avataar in every Yug." and Hari disappeared. The same Swaayambhuv Manu's first birth was in Raghu Kul as King Dasharath. Second time he was born as Vasudev in Vrishni Vansh. When the 1,000 Divine years of Kali Yug will be over, then he will be born as Harigupt Braahman in Sambhal village. His wife will also be with him in every life. Now I tell you about Raam.

[You remember Jaya and Vijaya who had to be born on Prithvi three times? Once they were born as Hiranyakashyap and Hiranyaaksh] The second birth of Hiranyakashyap and Hiranyaaksh was of Raavan and Kumbhkarn. Muni Pulastya had a very religious son named Vishravaa whose wife was the daughter of the King of Raakshas Sumaalee. Her name was Sukeshee. Although Kaikasee was very disciplined, but one day she had Vishravaa in the evning time, so she had two Tamo Gunee sons who were very mighty - Raavan and Kumbhkarn. She gave birth to one daughter also who came to be known as Shoorpankhaa. And after some time she had a son named Vibheeshan who was very noble, devotee of Bhagavaan, Truth speaker and pious.

Raavan and Kumbhkarn went to Himaalaya and did severe Tapasyaa there. Raavan was very wicked. He worshipped me with his heads, so pleased with that I asked him to ask any Var. He said - "Dev, I wish to win all Lok, that is why you bless me that I should not be killed by Devtaa, Daanav, and Raakshas." So Paarvatee, I bestowed him with his desired Var. Now he started troubling Devtaa, Daanav and human beings. So all went to Naaraayan and related their saga. Vishnu said - "I will incarnate in Dasharath's house and will kill Raavan with his brothers and friends. According to Brahmaa Jee's curse, you also incarnate in Vaanar Yoni with Gandharv and Apsaraa." So all Devtaa incarnated on Prithvi as Vaanar.

On the other side in Ikshwaaku Vansh, Vaivaswat Manu had a son named Ikshwaaku. In his lineage a great king whose name was Dasharath, was born. He married the very beautiful Princess of Kosal King, Kaushalyaa; then he married Magadh Princess Sumitraa; and then he married Kaikaya Princess Kaikeyee. His capital was Ayodhyaa. Because Hari was to incarnate there, that is why that city was called Ayodhyaa. Once Dasharath did Vaishnav Yagya with the desire of having a son. At the end of the Yagya, Vishnu appeared from the Ygya Kund and asked him to ask a Var. The King said - "I wish you to be my son." Vishnu said - "I will surely come to your house as your son." Then He gave the King a pot of Kheer which was in Lakshmee's hand and disappeared.

Dasharath saw his two queens there - Kaushalyaa and Kaikeyee, so he divided that Kheer between them, in the meantime Sumitraa also came there with the desire of son, so both Kaushalyaa and Kaikeyee gave her half Kheer from their share. The three queens got pregnant. In the month of Chaitra, Kaushalyaa gave birth to a son on its Shukla Navamee. He was Bhagavaan Himself so Devtaa got very happy.

Birth of Other Sons and Marriage of All Princes

Dasharath called Vashishth Jee to do His Jaatkarm Sanskaar. He named Him Shree Raam. He said - "Chaitra Maas is Vishnu's Maas, He has appeared in this month that is why He will be called Vishnu also." Then he did His Sahastra Naam Paath. Dasharath donated 10,000 cows, 100,000 villages, Divine clothes and jewelry and lots of money. When Kaushalyaa saw her sone she saw His Vishnu form in Him - Devtaa, Asur, the whole Universe, 14 Lok etc etc. Kaushalyaa got frightened seeing this, so she prayed Him to be her son only. Hearing this Bhagavaan hid His Vishnu Roop and started crying like a child. Later Kaikeyee gave birth to Bharat. He was the part Avataar of Paanchjanya Shankh. Then Lakshman and Shatrughn were born to Sumitraa. They were the incarnation of Anant and Sudarshan Chakra respectively. They grew up together and were educated in Ved and Shaastra and weaponry. Among them Raam and Lakshman stayed together, and Bharat and Shatrughn stayed together. After Raam had been born, Lakshmee incarnated in King Janak's house. The King was tilling a field for Yagya purpose, that Seetaa appeared from the Seet (front part of his plough) of his plough. He picked her up and brought up like his own daughter.

At this time Vishwaamitra started a Yagya on the banks of Gangaa River. When the Yagya had started, many Raakshas, who worked under Raavan, started disturbing it. Vishwaamitra Muni got very worried seeing this, so he decided to bring Hari from Ayodhyaa. He went to Ayodhyaa and saw the King. The King just stood folding his hands in  front of him and said - "I am blessed today seeing you here. Tell me what are the orders for me?" Vishwaamitra Jee said - "Give me Raam to protect my Yagya." Hearing this the King handed over Raam and Lakshman to him and Vishwaamitra Jee brought them to his Aashram. On the way Garud Jee came there hiding himself from everybody and gave Raam and Lakshman two Divine bows, two always full quivers and some Divine weapons.

In his Aashram, Vishwaamitra showed him a terrible she-demon Taadakaa. She was the wife of Sund named Raakshas. Both brothers killed Taadakaa. She got a Divine body after being killed, she bowed and greeted Raam's feet and went to Vishnu Lok. Vishwaamitra Jee started his Yagya, but then came Maareech with his brother Subaahu. Raam killed Subaahu with one arrow and used Pavan Astra to throw Maarech on the shore of the sea. Seeing this Maareech went to a forest to do Tapasyaa. Vishwaamitra Jee embraced Him and prayed Him.

Raam lived there till Muni finished his Yagya. In the meantime King Janak started Vaajpeya Yagya so all Maharshi went to Mithilaa to see that Yagya. Raam and Lakshman also went with them. On the way Raam touched a stone rock to uplift Ahalyaa. In earlier times she became stone by the curse of Gautam Muni. All arrived in Mithilaa Nagaree. Janak worshipped all and welcomed them. Seeing Shree Raam he got very happy and he thought to give his daughter to Him. Vishwaamitra told him that they were the sons of the King Dasharath. After the Yaga was over, Raam broke Shankar Jee's bow and won Seetaa Jee.

Then the King Janak sent a messenger to the King Dasharath about this, so the King Dasharath came there with Vashishth and Vaamdev etc Maharshi. In an auspicious Muhoort Janak Jee married Seetaa to Raam, and his another daughter Urmilaa to Lakshman. His brother Kushdhwaj also had two daughters - Maandavee and Shrutkeerti, so he married them to Bharat and Shatrughn respectively. After the marriage ceremony was over, the King Dasharath returned to his capital Ayodhyaa.

On the way they met Parashuraam Jee who was standing filled with rage. As he saw Raghunaath Jee, he said to Him - "O Raam, Listen to me. I went to do Tapasyaa after winning the Prithvi and donating it to Braahman, but I have come back to have a fight with you hearing the fame of your might. Although the Kshatriya who are born in my maternal grandfather Ikshwaaku family, are not be killed by me, till when I hear about somebody's might, I cannot tolerate, so give me a chance to fight with you. I have heard that you have broken Shankar Jee's bow. This Vaishnav bow has also killed many enemies. If you can pull its rope, I will be considered defeated. And if you are afraid seeing me, then surrender to me."

Hearing this Raam took Parashuraam's bow and drew that Vaishnavee power also with it. As Raam drew the Power, Parashuraam's glory faded away. Seeing this all Kshatriya admired Raam. Raam pulled the rope of the bow with arrow and asked Parashuraam - "Brahman, What good work should I do with this arrow? Should I destroy both of your Lok, or should I destroy Swarg Lok earned by your Punya?" Seeing that terrible arrow, Parashuraam got assured that He was Paramaatmaa. He got very happy to know this. He greeted Raghunaath Jee and offered Him his weapons and Swarg Lok earned by his 100 Yagya.

Raam worshipped Parashuraam Jee and Parashuraam Jee went to do Tapasyaa in Nar Naaraayan Aashram. Dasharath entered Ayodhyaa with his sons and daughters-in-law. All lived happily in Ayodhyaa for 12 years."
