Utsav in Various Months

(p 745) Paarvatee Jee said - "Maheshwar, Now tell me which Devtaa is of which month, how he should be worshipped and on which Tithi he should be worshipped. Which Utsav (celebrations) should be celebrated in which month?" Shiv Jee said -

"In Chaitra Maas, on Shukla Ekaadashee, one should celebrate Bhagavaan on swing. Who do Darshan of Bhagavaan on swing in Kali Yug, their all sins are washed away. Even all Devtaa along with Shankar come to see that scene. One should worship Him with this Gaayatree Mantra - "Aum Dolaaroodhaaya Vidmahe, Maadhavaaya cha Dheemahi, Tanno Devah Prachodayaat". Other Mantra, such as "Aum Namo Bhagavatey Vaasudevaaya", "Maadhavaaya Namah", "Govindaaya Namah", "Shreekanthaaya Namah", can also be used. Give Dakshinaa to Guru and sing His Leelaa on that day. After worship, distribute Charanaamrit to the people present there. All people present there should give a swing to Bhagavaan.

In Vaishaakh Maas, on Poornimaa, one should worship Bhagavaan establishing His idol in water. Who make Him sleep in water in rainy season, they never have to suffer in Narak. One should make Him sleep in some golden, or silver, or copper or clay pot. First fill the pot with cool water, establish the idol of Raam or Gopaal or Shaaligraam or any other idol in that pot and flow that pot in the water. Vishnu loves water that is why He sleeps in water. Who do this they are like Devtaa. Who always worships Vishnu kept in water, they become free from all sins.

Hey Devee, In Shraavan Maas, one should do Pavitraaropan of Vishnu. One should take the thread made by Braahman or himself or buy it. Take the thread three times of Shiv Ling's height, or Vishnu's idol, wash it, and make 365, or 182, or 108, or even 54 knots in it with the same thread only. If it is for Vishnu, it should be like flower garland. Then it should be offered to Bhagavaan. It is called Pavitrak. This should be done for Kuber on Pratipadaa; for Lakshmee on Dwiteeyaa; for Paarvatee on Triteeyaa; for Ganesh on Chaturthee; for Chandramaa on Panchamee; for Kaartikeya on Shashthee; for Soorya on Saptamee; for Durgaa on Ashtamee; for Devee on Navamee; for Yam Raaj on Dashamee; for all other Devtaa on Ekaadashee; for Vishnu on Dwaadashee; for Kaam Dev on Trayodashee; for Shiv on Chaturdashee; for Brahmaa Jee on Poornimaa. In the lowest kind of Pavitrak one should make at least 12 knots, for medium class there should be 24 knots, and for the good one there should be at least 36 knots in that thread.

All Pavitrak should be dyed in camphor, turmeric, sandal, saffron etc; should be kept in a new bamboo pot; should be kept near Devtaa; worship Devtaa and put those on Devtaa. Worship them, offer Naivedya worship them and pray them. Worship Guru, distribute betel leaves to people present there. Then wear those Pavitrak. Do Visarjan of Devtaa, and take food."

Note - After this various flowers have been described to be offered to Bhagavaan in various months.

Kaarttik Vrat-Who was Satyabhaamaa?

(p 750) Soot Jee said - "Once Naarad Jee came to Dwaarakaa to see Krishn and offered Him the flowers of Kalp Vriksh which He distributed among His 16,000 wives. One day Satyabhaamaa asked Krishn - "What Daan, or Vrat or Tap I did that even after taking birth on Prithvi, I rose from its standard, and I became your wife?" Krishn said - "Listen, In the end of Sat Yug, a Braahman, named Dev Sharmaa, born in Atri Vansh, lived in Maayaapuree (Haridwaar). He used to worship Soorya everyday, so he also became like Soorya. He had no son, only a daughter named Gunvatee. He married her to his disciple Chandra. He regarded him as his son, and that disciple also regarded Dev Sharmaa as his father.

One day they both went to bring Samidhaa for Havan, that a Raakshas saw them. They both got frightened, they could not even run away, so he killed them. Because of their Karm, my Paarshad took them to Vaikunth. Worshippers of Soorya, Shiv, Ganesh, Vishnu and Shakti also come to me. As water from all sources go to sea, in the same way, the worshippers of these Devtaa also come to me. Hearing the news of their death, Gunvatee started crying. Later she sold household things and performed their final rites. She still stayed in the same city and passed her time in worshipping. She followed two Vrat throughout her whole life - fasting on Ekaadashee and Kaarttik Maas Snaan. These two are very dear to me. Who take bath early in the morning, Deep Daan, watering Tulasee throughout Kaartik Maas, they become free from all sins. Who follow these even for three days in Kaarttik, they are worshipped by Devtaa also. One day, she was very ill, still she went to take bath in Gangaa River, but felt cold and fell into water. My Paarshad brought her to Vaikunth.

When I came on Prithvi, many of my Paarshad also came with me. These all Yaadav are my Paarshad. Your father Dev Sharmaa was born as Satraajit. Chandra Sharmaa is born as Akroor and you are Gunvatee. In your previous birth, you planted a Tulasee garden in front of my temple, that is why you have Kalp Vriksh in your palace; you did Deep Daan, that is why you have so much wealth; and because you offered everything to me, that is why you became my wife."

Kaarttik Vrat-Story of Shankhaasur

Satyabhaamaa asked - "Why do you love Kaarttik Maas and Ekaadashee Tithi, tell me the reason of this?" Krishn said - "Listen, In earlier times, King Prithu asked Naarad Jee a similar question. Naarad Jee said - "In earlier times there was an Asur named Shankh. He was the son of Samudra. He defeated all Devtaa, and Devtaa hid in caves. He thought that these Devtaa are powerful because of Ved, so let me take their Ved, which will make them weak. Thinking thus he brought Ved. Brahmaa Jee went to Vishnu along with other Devtaa and prayed Him. Pleased with their worship, Vishnu said - "On Kaartik Shukla Prabodhinee Ekaadashee day, when only one Prahar (3 hours) night remains, whoever will worship me, they will come near me. Shankhaasur has kept all Ved in water. I will kill him and bring all the Ved with me. From today, every year Ved and I will rest in water for the whole Kaarttik Maas. Since you have come on Ekaadashee, that is why this Tithi will be very dear to me. If anyone takes up Ekaadashee and Kaarttik Maas Vrat, he will surely come to me."

Naarad Jee said - "After saying this, Vishnu fell in the hands of Muni Kashyap living on Vindhya Parvat assuming the form a fish. Muni had kept him in his Kamandal, but it became smaller in size for that fish, so Muni took him to a pond, and in the end he had to take him to sea. There also he expanded his body and killed Shankhaasur. Carrying that Shankh (conch shell), He went to Badaree Van and said to Muni - "Go and find the Ved in sea, and bring them along with their secrets, till then I stay in Prayaag with Devtaa." All Muni recovered the Ved from the sea. Whichever number of Mantra a Muni recovered, he was regarded the Rishi of that Mantra section. The Muni went to Prayaag and gave the Ved to Brahmaa Jee.

Brahmaa Jee got very happy to receive those Ved, so he did an Ashwamedh Yagya in Prayaag, and Devtaa prayed him that Prayaag should be the giver of enjoyment, pleasures and Moksh. It should destroy all sins and whatever is given here should be eternal. Vishnu said - "I agree with this and from today it will be known as Brahm Kshetra. Born in Soorya Vansh, Bhageerath will bring Gangaa River here and she will meet Soorya's daughter Yamunaa here. From today it will be known as Teerth Raaj (the king of the Teerth). Whatever Daan, Punya, Jap and Tap etc will be done here, it will be eternal. Who will die here, thy will never come back to Prithvi. Who will take bath during the period when Soorya in Makar Raashi (Capricorn sign), in Maagh Maas, their all sins will be destroyed and I will give then three types of Mukti - Saalokya, Saameepya, and Saaroopya. Although I am omnipresent, but I live in Badaree Van especially. Whatever fruit you get of 10 years of Tap done somewhere else, you will get it in one day Tap done here."

Naarad Jee said - "After saying this Vishnu got disappeared from there and all Devtaa also went away to their Lok.

Kaarttik Maas Contd.
