1-Raam Returns to Ayodhyaa
2-Padm Puraan, 4-Paataal Khand, p 411-423

This Khand covers the pages 411-609 (220 pages) of the book. It gives the account of Raam's Ashwamedh Yagya, and Krishn's life.

Raam Returns to Ayodhyaa

Rishi said - "Hey Soot Jee, We heard the stories of Swarg Khand, now we wish to hear about Shree Raam." Soot Jee said - "Once Muni Vaatsyaayan asked the same question from Bhagavaan Anant. He asked him - "I have heard many things, but I heard about Raam's Ashwamedh Yagya in brief only, I wish to hear it in detail." Shesh Jee said - "You are blessed because you have got such a wisdom that you want to hear Raam Kathaa. Which is unknown even to Brahmaa etc Devtaa, how can I describe it fully, still I try my best to describe His Leelaa according to my capacity. His Leelaa is described in millions (Crores) of Shlok."

He closed his eyes for a while and then spoke - "When Raam had killed Raavan, Indra etc Devtaa got very happy and comforted and prayed Him. Raam embarked upon Pushpak Vimaan (airplane) along with Seetaa, Lakshman, Sugreev and Hanumaan etc after coronating Vibheeshan on the throne of Lankaa. Vibheeshan also wanted to go with Raam, so Raam took him also along with Him. Showing all the places to Seetaa on the way to Ayodhyaa, He came to Nandee Graam (village) where Bharat was living in those days. He used to sleep in a ditch, wearing matted locks and saffron colored clothes. He did not eat even barley in the name of grains and did not drink water many times.

When the Sun rose, he always prayed him - "You are the Lord of all Devtaa, please cleanse my all sins because of which my eldest brother and my dear sister-in-law had to go to forest. Even the kings didn't see Her whom now all ordinary people will be seeing. Who did not eat even the tastiest food in palaces, She will be asking for wild fruits for Herself today. Oh, How unfortunate I am." When his ministers etc said some consolation words, he used to say - "Why do you talk to me? I am the meanest brother in the world today, because my brother is in the forest because of me only. Even mother Sumitraa is more fortunate than me. She loved her husband very much and is the mother of a son who is serving Raam."

Shesh Jee said - "Seeing Nandee Graam, Raam got moved in His heart. He said to Hanumaan - "Hanumaan, You go to Bharat. His body has been weak in separation from me. So you go to him immediately and tell the news of my coming there. He will be very happy to hear this news." Hanumaan Jee went to Bharat. Bharat was sitting with his ministers and was talking to them. He had become very weak. Hanumaan greeted him and told him the news of Raam's coming. Bharat got very happy to hear this, he said - "I don't have anything which I can give to you in return of this news. I will always be your servant for this." And both headed towards Raam to welcome Him. Raam also saw Bharat wearing matted locks of hair and saffron clothes; and he saw his ministers also in the same outfit as Bharat.

Raam thought, "See, The King of Ayodhyaa is coming like this to welcome me. Even I did not suffer as much as he has been suffering. He is coming to welcoming me so happily." He disembarked from His Vimaan and headed to meet Bharat. Bharat just fell on His feet and cried - "Be pleased with me. Which feet felt the touch of even Seetaa's soft hands hard, those feet had to walk in forests because of me only." Both went to Pushpak Vimaan. Bharat saw his sister-in-law and said to Her - "Maa, Please forgive me for my mistakes." Seetaa blessed him and all came to Ayodhyaa."

Shesh Jee said - "Raam got very happy seeing His capital. Bharat ordered everybody in Ayodhyaa to celebrate Raam's coming to Ayodhyaa. All Varn people went to see Raam with gifts. Raam was passing through the royal path along with others. Many women came to see Him on their balconies. They were talking among themselves - "Women living in forests must have been blessed seeing our Raam. How handsome He is looking?"

Raam first went to Kaikeyee's palace. Kaikeyee got very ashamed seeing Raam in her palace. She did not speak anything to Him. Raam said to her - "Maa, I obeyed you perfectly in the forest, now tell me what do I do to please you by your order." Kaikeyee said in a low voice - "My son Raam, You are faultless, You go to your palace now." Raam then went to Sumitraa's palace and greeted her. Sumitraa blessed Him. Raam said to her - "Maa, You have given birth to Lakshman like son. He has served me very sincerely in the forest. Nobody else could serve me so well. Raavan kidnapped Seetaa. I got Her back because of him only." Then He went to Kaushalyaa's palace.

Raam found Kaushalyaa very weak, He said to her - "Maa, I am very unfortunate that I could not serve you for so long time, so please forgive me. Whoever sons do not serve their parents they are like worms. I went to Dandak Aranya (Dandak Van) by the order of father, then Raavan kidnapped Seetaa and took Her to Lankaa, I got Her only after killing him. She is also greeting your feet." Kaushalyaa blessed Her also along with her own two sons. Bharat handed over the kingdom to Raam. Raam was coronated and He started ruling the kingdom.

Devtaa came to pray Raam. Pleased with their prayer, Raam asked them to ask for any rare Var which has not been asked for by anybody else before. Devtaa said - "You have killed Raavan, we are happy with this. We wish that whenever any Asur troubles us, you take Avataar and protect us from him." Raam said - "With whatever Stotra you have prayed me, if anyone will read this Stotra once either in the morning or night, he will never be defeated by his enemies. He will never be poor and never be sick. Their hearts will be filled by my Bhakti."

His rule was very kind, just, and comfortable. In His kingdom, only rivers were not proud of clean water, but the families were also very clean (with no pride); not only the families were noble but their wealth was also noble (they did not use their wealth in bad Karm); only its rivers flowed in a crooked way, but not the people; only the Krishn Paksh was dark, not that people lived in dark (ignorance); only Chamar, shovels and umbrellas had Dand (stick) in them but it (Dand's other meaning is punishment) was not used at other places; only women's waists were weak (thin) not other things were weak; only gems had the holes and idols had Shool (tridents) in their hands but there was no hole or Shool in people's bodies. Waves rose only in water bodies, not in the heart of people, because all people's minds were stable. Only thorns were thorny not the nature of people. Structures (Shlok etc or essay structures) were found only in books, people were free from any kind of bindings and structures. "

Agastya in the Court of Raam, Raavan's Birth, and Raam's Avataar

Shesh Jee further said - "Once a clothes cleaner insulted Seetaa. Hearing that Raam abandoned Her and He alone was ruling the earth. One day Agastya Muni came to His court, He welcomed him and offered him the seat and asked - "You are a great ascetic, what can I do for you? Today we all have become cleansed by your coming here." Agastya Jee said - "Hey Raam, Your Darshan is difficult even to Devtaa, that is why I have come here to see you. Seeing you here my all sins are destroyed." Raam said - "Hey Muni, I wish to ask you a few things, please tell me that in detail. Who was this Raavan whom I killed; and who was his brother Kumbhkarn? Who were his brothers and friends? You know all these things in detail, please tell me everything."

Agastya Jee said - "Hey Raajan, Brahmaa Jee's son was Pulastya Rishi, and Pulastya Rishi's son was Muni Vishravaa. He had two wives who were very Pativrataa - one was Mandaakinee and the other one was Kaikasee. Mandaakinee had one son named Kuber who became Lokpaal and by the grace of Shankar Jee he lived in Lankaa Puree. Kaikasee was the daughter of Vidyunmaalee Daitya and she gave birth to three mighty sons - Raavan, Kumbhkarn and Vibheeshan. Raavan and Kumbhkarn followed A-Dharm because they were established in Kaikasee's womb in the evening time.

* Note - Vaalmeeki Raamaayan, 7/3 says that Kaikasee was the daughter of Sumaalee, son of Sukesh.

Once Kuber came to see his father and mother riding on his Pushpak Vimaan. He stayed there for long time, then he went back to his house. Raavan was very intelligent, he asked his mother - "Mother, Who was he who came and went away after praying my father's feet? His Vimaan's speed is like wind's speed. How did he get such Vimaan?" Hearing this Kaikasee got a bit angry and spoke - "He was my co-sister's son Kuber who has spread his family's fame a lot; but you are busy only to satisfy yourself. He has got Lankaa Puree for living, such a high speed Vimaan for ride and wealth and kingdom by doing Tap for Shiv Jee."

Raavan said - "Mother, What is that Kuber? He is like a worm. Why do you worry about his Tap? And what is Lankaa Puree? If I do not control three Lok by my Tap then I should be attached to sin of the destroyer of my father's family." So the three brothers went to forest and started doing Tap. Raavan did Tapasyaa by standing on one leg for 10,000 years, Kumbhkarn and Vibheeshan also did Tapasyaa. Brahmaa Jee pleased with their Tapasyaa gave huge kingdom to Raavan and made him handsome in three Lok. After getting Var Raavan troubled Kuber a lot. He took his Lankaa Puree and Vimaan. He troubled others too. Devtaa had to abandon their Swarg Lok. He killed many Braahman also.

Seeing all this Indra and other Devtaa went to Brahmaa Jee. Brahmaa Jee went to Shiv Jee and Shiv Jee went to Vishnu Jee along with all Devtaa. They prayed Him and said - "Do something to kill Raavan." Vishnu said - "I will surely do something. I will take Avataar and kill him. There is Ayodhyaa Puree on Prithvi whose king is Dasharath now-a-days. Though he has everything but he has no child. He will invite Rishyashring Muni with the desire to have a son and will do a Putreshti Yagya. Then I will appear in his house assuming four forms from his three queens. I will be known as Raam, Lakshman, Bharat and Shatrughn. You also go and be born as monkeys and bears on earth."

Hearing this Devtaa got very happy and took birth on Prithvi as monkeys and bears. So you are the same Vishnu and these your three brothers are your parts only."
