Kausheetakee Upanishad-2

3-1
Pratardan, son of Divodaas, by struggle and effort made it to the house of God (Indra) God said to him - "Pratardan, Ask for a boon."
Pratardan replied - "Lord, Grant me a boon which is best for any man."
God then said to Pratardan - "Know mw, for to know God is the best boon for a man."

3-3
One can live without the faculty of speech - witness the dumb; one can live deprived of eyesight - witness the blind; one can live without the faculty of hearing - witness the deaf; one can live without the  legs - witness the lame; one can survive without the maturity of mind - witness the child; but one cannot live without the breath of life, and without soul, the consciousness of life leaves the body.
[Commentary - If breath remains, the soul leaves a person's body, he loses his mind completely and is reduced to the state of a vegetable.]
