Brihadaaranyak Upanishad

Introduction to Brihadaaranyak Upanishad

King Janak of Videh kingdom initiated many learned men and women from all over in a conference which was to decide who was the most learned among them. Janak was to give this man 1,000 cows and 10,000 gold coins - 10 coins hung around each cow's neck. Hearing this announcement many men and women came to test their luck. Yaagyavalkya also came there. He just asked his disciple to drive those cows right away. Everyone presented there objected and asked him whether he considered himself the most learned man among them and he answered - "I bow to all presented here, I do believe that I am the most learned man among the people gathered here." At this many people started asking him many types questions to which he satisfactorily answered them. The last one was asked by Gaargee.

Some question answers are very interesting in this Upanishad. They are given here in detail. They are taken from Bharatdesam.com. Whatever questions Gaargee asked from Yaagyavalkya - her questions start in this Upanishad from 3-8.
