41-5 - Story of Alaaddeen (5 of 5) :
Alaaddeen and Magician's Brother

Now the magician had a younger brother. He was more wicked than his elder brother. They did not live together but they were aware of each other's whereabouts. So when the younger brother did not hear from his elder brother for sometime, he took out a similar magical square box, drew some figures and found out that he was not in this world any more, and that it had happened in the capital of China. He thought to take revenge of his death and came to China. He roamed around to know the city. At one place he came to know about a noble woman Faatimaa who had retired from doing miracles. She seemed useful to him, so he asked more about her.

One man said - "It is surprising that you have never heard about her. She never comes out of her house except on Mondays and Fridays. And whenever she comes out she performs miracles." The magician found out about her and followed her the whole day till she came back to her house after curing people's headaches. He went to her house at midnight, opened the door and put a dagger on her chest. Poor Faatimaa wanted to cry but he said - "Don't try to make noise otherwise I will kill you. Do as I say." She got up and waited for his order. He said - "Do not be so frightened, just give me your gown and you take mine. Even color my face as yours, and I tell you again, I am not going to kill you." Faatimaa did as he said to her.

Thus disguised as Faatimaa, next day he went directly to Alaaddeen's house. As people saw Faatimaa going out, they gathered in a huge crowd. Satisfying everybody he came to the palace. The crowd was huge and the noise was high. The Princess heard the noise and asked her maid about it. She told her that it was Faatimaa on the street. The Princess had heard a lot about her but she had never seen her. Getting a good opportunity, she sent one of her servants to bring her in. He brought her in.

As she came she read a long prayer for the Princess. Princess was very pleased with her, so she asked her to sit beside her. She sat by her. The Princess said to her - "Please don't say no to my desire. I wish that you stay with me for a couple of days to teach me your god ways of living. Faatimaa said, "But I will continue my prayers." "Sure. I have many rooms, come and take whichever you like." She showed her several rooms around and she chose the one least furnished room.

Princess wanted to take her for the dinner but she did not go there lest her face was recognized.  She further said - "I eat only bread and dry fruits and that also I would eat in my own room." After the Princess had finished her food, she asked fake Faatimaa about her palace and especially about the hall they were sitting in. Faatimaa's said - "Forgive me for the frankness, but if a roc's egg hung from the center of its dome it would look more beautiful." The Princess asked her politely - "Mother, What is a roc and where can I get its egg?" Faatimaa said - "It is huge bird which lives on the Mount Caucasus and the person who has built this palace for you, can get one for you." The Princess thanked her and came back to her room.

Alaaddeen had been gone for six days, in fact that is why the magician came there in his absence; but suddenly he returned the same day. He went to his wife's room, but she did not welcome him warmly, so he  asked her, "What is the matter, Dear?" The Princess said - "I want an egg of roc to hang from the dome of the main hall of this palace." Alaaddeen comforted her that he would get it soon and she should not worry about it. He went to that big hall, took out the lamp, rubbed it, and when Genie appeared, asked him to bring a roc's egg.

Hearing this the Genie gave a so loud cry that the whole palace got shaken. He said - "What? I have done everything for you, you asked me to do. And now you are asking me to bring my master and hang him here from this dome? You are fortunate, that this is not your original request, otherwise you, your palace and your family should have been reduced to ashes. This request has come from the brother of the African magician. He is now in your palace in disguise of holy Faatimaa whom he has murdered. It is he who has asked your wife to make such a demand. Now he wants to kill you, so take care of yourself." And the Genie disappeared.

Alaaddeen immediately came to his wife and complained to her that he suddenly had a severe headache. His wife immediately called the fake Faatimaa and told Alaaddeen how she came there. When she came, Alaaddeen said - "Please Mother, Help me with this severe headache." Fake Faatimaa raised her hand with a dagger to kill him. Alaaddeen took out his own dagger and pierced his heart with it. The magician's brother died instantly. The Princess cried in shock - "What have you done? You have killed holy Faatimaa?" Alaaddeen said - "No Dear, I have not killed Faatimaa, it was a wicked man who came here to kill me. This wicked man is the brother of that African magician." That is how Alaaddeen killed two magicians.

When the Sultaan died, the Princess succeeded him and shared the riches of her kingdom with him. They had several good children.
