1. Today we are in the black.
I read a story long back, there were a couple having two small kids. Both of them were employed. Having no proper person to take care of kids, they decided either the husband or wife should resign. Next day having a big personal quarrel the husband suddenly resigned the job. He thought his wife is earning, no problem. Thinking she can look after the kids better, being in the black about husband's action she submitted resignation and came with a smile to intimate eagerly her action to the husband that she has resigned. It was not the days of mobile phones.

2. Karate
In Karate, black belt is a superior degree and difficult to obtain. In Hindi films, Akshaya Kumar is a Black Belt holder.

3. Black Animals
Elephant and Buffalo - If we ask kids what color is of elephant, most will answer as Black, although its color is blackish grey. Whether elephant is black or blackish grey, the color of the hair of its tail is black. We get rings in most of the jewelry shops, where a part of an elephant's hair is fitted on it through close fittings. The hair is specially charged anything from Rs 200 onwards apart from the cost of the ring. The buffalo is of course always black. Man cows are found of black color.

Naag, Serpents, Baboons, Dogs, Crow, Koyal - Many snakes and serpents are black. They are believed to be more dangerous than others snakes. Baboons are also black. It is said good to feed black dogs, although black dogs are found less. Crow and Koyal birds are also black.

4. Black Sheep
Black sheep is different from other black animals. Why, because sheep are not of black color. Black sheep is an idiom used to indicate the betrayer in a group. Black sheep are always there every where. We may not be knowing them. It is a waste of time and efforts to check and correct these black sheep.

5. Black Record
Black record is also an idiom like Black Sheep. When a person has received a charge sheet, suspension etc, he is said to have a black record. It is not that the black record holder is always at fault, black records can be created by bad superior officers also, even for innocent employees, when both do not agree with each other.

6. The Black Box
You might have heard the name of the "Black Box". This is normally kept in airplanes. In case of accidents this Black Box is recovered to know the whole situation in which the accident occurred. But you will be surprised to know that this Black Box is not of black color, it is of orange color. It is a flight recorder, and all conversations of pilot are recorded in it.

7. Telephone
Long before when these fashionable colorful telephones  were not there, it was originally built with a material called Bakelite and their color was always black. Very late color telephones with fiber body have come into existence.

8. Black Flag
Both are used to indicate sorrow and grieving on death, funeral etc. If we see a black flag on a vehicle, we know that either they are going for a death or taking dead body etc. A black flag is a mark of protest also. When public wants to protest some leader, it rallies with black flags.

9. My Umbrella
When umbrellas with cloth and steel rods and folding type appeared all umbrellas top were with black color cloth. It is because, that the black color does not refract light, thus it was good in both ways - in rains to save from rains and in sunlight to save us from he heat of sunlight. But now a days, in practice, this effect is not much felt, because now colored cloth umbrellas are equally in fashion and common. In certain semi auspicious functions, like if somebody has to donate to pacify Shani Dev, he will donate only black umbrella, not of any other color.

10. Black Color Clothes
Though black was the popular color for pilgrims from North Kerala to identify them earlier, now a day many wear black color during Sabarimalai pilgrimage. Incidentally people on pilgrimage from Pandaalam were permitted to wear white Dhotee. In northern India, black color is regarded as inauspicious and is never used any time, whether auspicious or inauspicious. Even at death time, people wear white, but never black. Black color dreses are in fashion n Christians at the burial ceremony.

11. Black Color in Courts of India
In courts in India, black is in fashion. The court uses only black ink for writing judgments. Even in their offices also, document writers use only black ink. The advocates, the judge use only black coat. It is the most uniformed system. We cannot see any advocate without black coat in the court room.

12. Black Color in Education
All the students receiving their undergraduate degrees wear black gown during convocation. Although some other color gowns can also be seen there, but they are for higher degrees. The first degree is received in black colored gown only.

13. People and Black
Many women like black color for their blouse, telling that it matches mostly with all colors and types of Saaree. In men it is common to have black pants, for the same reason that it will go with any color and and type of shirt. In yester years most wore black or white color pants. Black could be light black (dark grey) or blackish green also.

14. Black Beauty
Normally wheatish skin is considered as contributing to beauty. But beauty is seen from many other angles also. There is a branch of knowledge called Ang Shaastra (Phrenology). According to there are many black skinned and beautiful people among men and women. Black beauty is mostly referred to beautiful women with dark skin. In Hindu mythology, Draupadee was of dark complexion and was extremely beautiful. Cleopatra of Egypt was also dark complexioned but she was the most beautiful woman of the world in those times.

15. Black Money
You must be wondering what is this color of money? Is there any money black, or white or green? Yes, There is Black money and there is white money. Like Black Sheep, this Black Money is also an idiom used for any unaccounted money. It comes from underhand dealings, and since it is not recorded, people do not have to pay income tax on it. In fact it is taken to evade income tax. Making and keeping black money is a big offence.

16. Black Hair
Hair is of many colors - red, white, blonde, brown etc, and of course black too. When born among Indians, Africans, many South American countries, Chinese, Japanese etc, all babies have black color hair on their head. In Indian Hindi poetry, the beauty of black curly hair of heroines has been described and admired a lot. There it is give the simile of black bumblebee.
