8 - Numbers in Indian Mathematics
[According to Naarad Puraan, p 242]

In Indian system numbers increase in the group of two, except the first one which is in three (one hundred); while in western system they increase in hundreds.

These numbers may be added or subtracted from unit side or from the other side, the addition and subtraction will be the same if the units are added or subtracted to units and tens are added or subtracted to tens etc.
