Shiv Avataar
Shat Rudra Sanhitaa describes the 100 Avataar or manifestations of Shiv.
Unlike the Avataar of Vishnu, Shiv manifests himself directly wherever and
whenever necessary and disappears after the task is over. His some of the
Avataar are: Five forms of Sadyojaat and Vaamdev, The Asht Moortis such as
Sharv, Bhav and Rudra. Other forms like Kaal Bhairav, Sharabh, Yagyeshwar,
Mahaa Kaal, eleven Rudra like Kapaalee, Shambhoo, Vilohit, Vrishabh,
Avadhooteshwar, Kiraat.
The other Sanhitaa deal with the ritualistic worship of Shiv, the creation
of the world, Daksha Yagya, Girijaa Kalyaan, Kumaar Sambhav, Tripur Dahan,
the twelve famous Shiv Ling, the various sins and hells, Daan and gifts,
Shraaddh, Pranav Omkaar, Sanyaas, explanations of Mahaa Vaakya, Shiv as the
best of Gods, Shiv as a teacher of Yog, importance of Mantra Namah Shivaaya
etc. etc. There are others like Shiv Dharmottar Puraan, Shiv Geetaa,
Shivadharm Puraan also.
